Thanks hon. It was my own fault -- I ate some cheese that had been out of the fridge for a couple of hours. I started off with just water but that was fine, I ate some plain food, then I was all good again :-)
I do not have step parents but I have seen the dynamics there are often complex and feelings get hurt more easily for slights that are not intended or which are perhaps imagined. I hope your Dad calms down and is able to see the effort you're making. Have you thought of sending this post to both he and your step mom?
I've been thinking about it, and it seems that for now, the best thing to do is to drop them a note saying I respect their boundaries, I love them and would love to hear from them, and I'll be in touch at specific times (Dad's birthday, wedding invites, wedding suit hire for Dad, etc), but other than that it's up to them to contact me.
Sounds like a good plan. It keeps the door open and let's them know that you still want to be in touch. Gives them a timeline for when to expect to hear from you and gives them the option to ask for more contact when they calm down and decide they want to.
