This was such a great, personal essay that covers a lot of ground. "Unglued" is a great way to describe the current state of affairs. The first president I can remember is JFK. We survived the 60s and a lot of good came out of it. I don't know what will come out of the current mess, but I'm very pessimistic.
Tell me about JFK? I know he was shot, obviously, and that much of the Space program was originally his idea, but what kind of guy was he? What kind of politician? Please and thank you.
He was a young, charismatic president who made some mistakes (Bay of Pigs), had some triumphs (Cuban Missile Crisis), served in WWII, and who many, including me, thought would have accomplished great things, especially socially. I wish I had the time and knowledge to answer your questions fairly, but I suggest you look at something like Wikipedia. He was the opposite of the current holder of the office, if that suffices.
To be fair, some of us think that LGBTQ+ equality is really important and necessary and overdue. But I agree with everything else here, and with the frustration of all of this needed attention to climate change and alternative fuels having essentially stalled out for so very long.
Yeah, I'm not saying LGBT+ issues (along with many other things) aren't worth attention. Or at least, I didn't intend to say that. I only intended to say that politicians were/are putting effort into Things That Are Not Climate Change Or Even Tangentially Related To Climate Change, and so therefore people stopped talking about it as much. I thought the writing would suffer without an example, but in retrospect I should have used two. Sorry about that, but thanks for your comment.
