Sun had won one of many battles that day, warming air and wind, encouraging birds to sing their very first mating songs of the year.
They were taking a walk just before lunchtime, Shou hiding beneath a woolen hat, Saga behind sunglasses as, with fingers entwined between them, they followed Chiko's stroll through the park.
It had a feeling of spring despite the large piles of snow along the path and the crunching gravel beneath their warm boots. Their scarves hung loose around their necks, craning to catch a tad more sunlight on smiling cheeks.
"Look!" Saga spoke up, halting in motion. "Is that a flower?"
He unlinked their hands to step over the white heaps, heading for a spot on the soon-to-be-green-space only he saw. Shou watched his lover, how he got down on his knees, oblivious to jeans getting soaked, digging the crisp and cool snow aside.
"It is a flower!" he exclaimed and lent down to take a closer look, pushing his sunglasses up into his hair.
Chiko trotted towards his crouching master, wriggling his tail curiously.
Shaking his head with a muffled laugh, Shou pulled out his mobile phone.
And there it was, a photograph of his beloved pointing his beautiful nose at an early bloomer glowing with a rich shade of purple, his lips curled up in a delightfully innocent smile.
He couldn't help it, he fell in love all over again.
