It could have been the light. Right, it was the dim light of the street more or less coming through the curtains, cold yet soft.
Ruki pulled the thick blanket up to his chin again. Cold it was, for sure, the heating had broken down two days ago and as it seemed just in time for the first snow. He couldn’t afford to keep the electric heater running all night. He had spent most of the night at a restaurant. Having dinner.
With Reita.
Just like yesterday. And the day before. It was warm there, with a hot meal and steaming coffee. The first time, they paid separately. The second, Ruki paid, out of feeling bad for bothering the bassist again. The third time, Reita treated him with a faint blush around his button nose.
Ruki thought, now, they were even.
They were, but on a new level, so it felt.
Closing his eyes, Ruki took a deep breath. He tried to relax, but his hands tightened on the blanket.
He opened his eyes again.
It was still there, that dim light on Reita’s face, cold yet soft. It didn’t look real. It was, though. Ruki definitely felt the warmth of Reita’s body warming his own. He actually had expected him to snore, but only soft breathing was to be heard. A quiet snort escaped Ruki throat as he couldn’t hold back a smile.
Right that moment, he did accept. He relaxed. He scooped a little closer, almost up against Reita’s chest, inhaling worn off perfume.
The other man blinked, halfway asleep, his eyes glinting in that dim light. Slowly, Ruki moved in, placing a simple kiss on Reita’s lips.
The very first.
