My guess is that religious/spiritual faith/commitment and error responses evolved to work in concert. I'm sure you've had the experience of fumbling frustratedly through a trail of mistakes after being derailed by an initial fuck-up (sorry about the technical terminology). I sure have, anyway... Maybe faith takes the edge off and allows for smooth error correction. /asstalkingoutof
