Sad sad news

Long, long ago, when I was young and innocent and Muse were only just being born, I got into my first band in a major way. That band was the Electric Light Orchestra. I pledged eternal love to Jeff Lynne (well he did write all the songs and his mouth disturbed me in a whole new way, plus I was a big fan of facial hair on men even then) despite the ( Read more... )

ELO were truly a magnificent band. I admire(d) them greatly, although I didn't know the individual band member's names. Bleh. It's awful when you hear of something like this. I know how I felt when I heard that Kim Manners had died from lung cancer (producer on The X-Files).

Yeah, really they weren't a "personality" band like some are. You just imagine some people will always be there. Thanks for the hug too *hugs back*

Shame. ELO used to make good music. Not knowing much too much of them, but yeah… good band.

Oh and Electric Light Band (some remains from ELO) played the Dachsbergfest some years back. You know that annual …festival/fun fair/market thingy that happens in the last August weekend in my hometown… We happen to live exactly on that area, too.

Did you see The Electric Light Band? I sort of stopped following things once I got into Muse and everything - the reformed ELO Part 2 were pretty good but I lost track in the end. They used to put on a good show though. Nowadays you tend to see ELO on those Guilty Pleasures CDs, along with ABBA and stuff.

Awww, glad you liked them. Wonder if Kelly was in it? In his last years he was almost bald with a stupid ponytail at the back. I never really saw proper classic ELO but I did see ELO Part 2 at the NEC with a full Russian orchestra whose conductor looked like a gnome and wore a red motorcycle crash helmet all the way through. Strange. But fun.
