I chopped off all my hair. All I get asked is what reason I had to do it. The only reason I didn't do it sooner was because I was lazy. I just stopped being lazy. And I don't want to sweat. If there is a more complex reason, it is just that with all the changes that are going on right now, something like this is very insignificant. It's just hair. ( Read more... )

It is common after traumatic events to want to drastically change yourself. To not be the person you were, who was hurt, fooled, or otherwise taken advantage of.

You were trying to depersonalize yourself to heal.
'Look at that person I used to be' 'glad I'm not him anymore'
and other such.

Whether this method actually works or not isn't really my intention to explore.

However, as to our coworker, I believe they really only meant that they recognized you as you with your hair - as though all the rest of the world sees you as something or someone different when a cosmetic change is made.

Really, humans rely far too much on their opticals.
