I don't understand why Pete and Mikey are lost souls though. Their love seems so precious and full of want and every emotion that Gerard and the rest can't understand. Are they there because it's a relationship that's doomed to end in the real world? The only way to keep it alive is to stay in the land of lost souls and show themselves how much they truly mean to each other?
I might be misinterpreting this whole story, but I really love this verse. It's brilliant and Gerard made me sad. I couldn't help but feel sorry for him and the way he wanted his brother to come back to the world even though he hadn't noticed him missing in the first place.

And yes, that's basically it. They love with an obsession, almost, and they can't be together in the real world. It's basically as if pieces of the "real" Pete and Mikey are forever locked away together, because although they can't be, they also can't let go entirely.
