Very Important Hunting Club Time

Feb 26, 2007 12:25

The morning of the hunt was a perfect clear, warm day. Stephen was the first to arrive at the meeting place out near the stables-- normally he aimed for fashionably late, but he didn't want to risk anyone important showing up before him. It'd just be rude. So he was already dressed for the hunt, and sitting astride one of his horses. Stephen Jr. ( Read more... )

Since Fay had been invited, Kurogane had, by extention, been also. And wherever Fay was going, Kurogane got there first--if only by a couple of seconds.

He led their horse over, looking around in a manner automatic to him now, to see how safe their current surroundings were, and how he could make them safer. He nodded to Stephen in greeting, then turned to call back to Fay, "Stop spoiling the dog and hurry up, mage." Somehow, he managed to make that sound almost fond.

Stephen was about to ask the tall man who he thought he was. He looked a bit too military to be a stable boy, but certainly no one Stephen wanted in his important hunting club-- his clothes were too plain to be noble or money. But then Fay came after him, holding a dog.

The man must be his bodyguard. He gave Kurogane a look at the rude way he spoke to Fay-- he didn't like these common soldier types at all, not when they didn't know how to speak to someone so clearly noble and refined and hot.

Then, he grinned and waved at the mage. "Good morning, Fay! You look good today! Excited for hunting, I mean! Is that your dog? She looks like a fine one!"

"I say if Prince Tamaki is ready to get started, it's time to get started," Stephen said, and with a whistle his dogs left their place gazing longingly at the mage on the horse and loyally returned to his side.

Stephen had consulted with his huntsman earlier today, so he knew hart had been spotted in this area, and their track was heading north. He glanced towards Tamaki crouched by his horse's feet-- the dog was his best tracker and would have little difficulty picking up the scent of the quarry.

"All right," he said. "Go, boy!" At his words, Tamaki sniffed the air and then began to bound off in the direction the deer presumably were. Yuzuru was after him right away.

"Ready?" He prepared Charlene to go.

((Sooo, this is loosely based on the Wiki entry 'medieval hunting'. Hopefully it's helpful, and sorry if I mess anything up! I'm presuming they're hunting deer.))

Heh, don't sweat it. The thread was just getting a bit long and doing that annoying then where the box goes all narrow. So I started a new thread. :)

"Of course not." Kurogane couldn't turn around on the horse, naturally, but it was obvious that instead of getting angry at the teasing, he might have actually been smiling. "For one thing, you're prettier than anyone else I've seen." Flirting? In public? Surely not!

It was probably a good thing Stephen definitely hadn't heard any of that. Just because he would've thought it was inappropriate for a servant to speak that way to a man of the court, and Stephen would hate to lose the esteem he had for Fay just because he let his servants get away with rudeness.

So it was good that he definitely hadn't heard any of that.

He nudged Charlene to get her to pick up the pace. "Hey, how are you doing, Fay?" he asked cheerfully. "Wow, your bodyguard isn't such a bad horseback rider for an amateur, is he?"
