I really think you need to realise that Nathan is just saying that he feels the trajectory the professor mentioned is not appropriate for him, not that he feels it's not appropriate for other people or that he's saying that he is the only one who should be exempt from that kind of path. It's not a matter of exemption : it's matter of being able to realise the dreams he has and his fears of not being able to do that in the path that the professor presented.

Since Nathan is not attacking you or anyone else at any level, it seems to me that you should not be so upset about his response : this is not about you. You need to realise he's a true friend to you and that if his emotions were a little out of check, in your own response your have been also. Since the extended situation of what makes a good film career doesn't concern you, why not drop that slight issue and get on with the real business of your friendship?
