As far as the Sims 3 goes, are your drivers completely updated? I was having trouble until I did that, myself.

Yeah, it was working fine before I tried to install High End Loft Stuff.

I remember one of the stuff or expansion packs changed the way lighting works - that could fuck with something...what's it doing, exactly? :(

It keeps saying 'it looks like you have installed an unofficial game modification that does not match your current version of the Sims 3. We recommend that you either uninstall these game modifications or get updated versions of them - otherwise you may experience crashes of significant bugs.

You have to press quit or continue, but even when you click continue, the game loads up to your last save point and then crashes a second or two later. I haven't dowloaded any custom content, and I haven't installed anything other than the games themselves. :|
