At the beginning of the school year the lady that runs the local Big Brothers, Big Sisters program came by the school and asked how many of us assistants wanted to become mentors. I've been trying to think of things that I like and could teach her, but crochet seemed too difficult. I think this will be perfect, though. It'll give her a chance to practice letter-writing, AND learn about the world, which I think is important. So many people here are either afraid of stepping out of this little bubble we live in and/or just content with it.

:D I hope she likes it! Though they see other races all the time (and have racially mixed kids in the school), kids that go to tribal school seem to live in a Choctaw-only world. I think it'd be good for her to learn about what else is out there and maybe even pique her interest in SEEING it for herself!

We only meet 1 hour a week, but I hope I'll have lots to write about soon! I am thinking that maybe I'll teach her to do something I like and maybe she can teach me something, too. Even if it's something like *gulp* basketball. O_O;
