LJ Idol Week 7: My Best Friend

Dec 18, 2007 20:00

For reasons that I have often pondered, and yet remain wholly mysterious, the majority of my core friends have always been male. And yet, amidst that, the person identified as "Best Friend" has almost always been female.

I don't know if this is a good thingMy guys friends are all mutual friends. We're a pack. Independent of me, Watts will hang ( Read more... )

very nice post. I'll try hard to remember to vote for you!

I dunno. I dislike the word "best friend" because I have a group of girlfriends who I consider to be my bestfriendS and they're all very different girls and we have very different things(if anything) in common with each other. I know the girl who I consider to be possibly my best friend, but it's totally fine with me if she has another best friend : ). For a while, one of my best friends talked constantly about this really dumb girl who ended up betraying her. I've been friends with this girl for 6 years and we're really close, but still she doesn't consider me her best friend, and it's fine by me ^_^.

My best friend is also my boyfriend : ). My best girlfriend though, though is that hard question! It can sometimes be a really hard question, right! Cause it seems like you too have a very good core group of friends.

hmmm...i definitely agree.

Also, because you and Alex are such good friends, you seem to never bring that awkwardness that sometimes comes when hanging out in a group but two of the members are dating. Having a "best friend" is hard especially when growing up, because you kind of go into a pattern of "cling and release" and people move in and out of the foreground of your life, because everyone is changing so much.

YES! I have definitely noticed that Alex and I rarely cause awkwardness. I'm comfortable shifting into "just friends with this silly guy" mode whenever I need to :P

I sometimes wonder how I would've done socially if I went to school when I was younger...I get so clingy, I probably would've been distressed when people changed and didn't like me anymore, or I didn't like them. When I was little, it wasn't so painful to stop being friends with someone because I never saw them that often in the first place...

Oh and, who is that in your icon?

it's Seth Green, when he was on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Because I'm totally cool like that. Yeah, its totally understandable to be clingy. What's really funny is when I went to summer camp each year, and I'd make these close friends, then basically lose contact for the whole year. Then here comes summer again, and we start back from where we left off. It's quite a funny situation.

It's somewhat like you and me--we saw so much of each other at the start of high school, and then kind of naturally settled into separate groups. But I feel like I could call you at any time and it wouldn't be awkward at all.
