Relativisim. Everything we perceive and the way we perceive it, good or bad, is learned. Because good and bad is learned, members of a given culture seldom question the societal expectations of which they are part of. Still, there are indeed moral guidelines in a society. We are all part of a society, therefore, we all have moral guidelines we engage ourselves towards unthinkingly.
How is good and bad learned, you might ask? How come in Africa people roam village to village shooting people having nothing to do with or any coflict between. Because they were taught differently from you and I. They aren't bad people. You can say they are. The rest of the world can say they are bad people with bad morals. But it's relative. To them they are following orders, fighting for some cause they see as beneficial to they're society.
So your saying that you see nothing wrong with unjustified murder?
The kwakiutl tribe see it fit that if a loved one dies, wether it be by murder or illness, that it was good to go out ad murder another.... just to make themselves feel better........ nick how is that moral? just because they see it ok, how can you just sit there and think "ohh its ok, thats their culture."
i think that there is simply 2 moral codes we shoudl abide by, dont lie and dont murder..... personally i think that if you follow those rules and follow the guidelines sat down by your own personal society than your good to go........
blahblah blah , i kinda dont even know what im talking about anymore..........
my head hurts...... thanks for your input.
take care
i still havent got to the music stuff..... but another day, i need to take a nap.
Whoops, I said they aren't bad people because they kill others. I should've clarified... sure I think they are bad people, you think they are bad people, but what I'm saying is, is that they don't. That's the key. I'm sorry, I'm just more focused on the whole 'relativism' part of your question. Cody, it is relative... I was using that example of Africa just to show you an extreme example of how morals are relative. Actually, I'm sitting here just thinking, "oh, it's their culture," but it's not ok. How can you justify war, period.
