At least he wasn't going to die--yet. He never wanted any of this; never wanted to live as an assassin, never wanted to be involved in some huge scheme, battle or conspiracy ( Read more... )

Since Edward hasn't notified him with further details about the exploration, Kresnik decides to walk around the City for a bit; maybe he'll find some extra information or clues about the recent strangeness in the air. This place seems like it is starting to become more dangerous...but it could be just his paranoia speaking. Most cities have conflicts and dangers in general, just usually not as absurd as the events here. Still, it remains that problems happen, no matter where.

After walking for a small amount of time, he spots an unfamiliar man looking around and appearing relatively confused. Another new one here? Kresnik strolls over to him, his expression serious and blank. "...Who might you be?"

The sound of footsteps made him turn. Desmond sized this guy up, noticing his steady walk and posture, outfit and the way he walked. Paranoia dictated he use his ancestor's ability, and when he did, he saw this man as an ally.

... Strange.

Desmond shoved his hands into his pockets, thinking this stranger seemed like someone in a military. It was the way he held himself, and the outfit sort of gave it away--though it wasn't anything like he'd seen before, either.
Still, he would make sure to be careful.
"A stranger in a strange land," he replied casually. "No idea where this is. Mind telling me?"

The man dresses a bit casually, he appears to be someone who is just a normal person. Still, appearances can be a bit deceiving at times.

He seems a bit surprised when the stranger vaguely answered his question. Well, it does not matter too much. "...You are in the City. It is a place where people of different worlds and time periods meet."

The soldier might as well introduce himself though. "I'm Commander Kresnik Ahtreide."

He was kidding, right?

Desmond looked at Kresnik as though he'd grown two heads. "So there's a military here?"

(OOC: Mind if I offer a little crit? >> Third person logs like this flow a lot better if you use past tense as opposed to present. i.e. "he ran" instead of "he runs.")

Del was making yet another trip to the library, the books from her previous visit in a bag slung over one shoulder, despite the havoc it wreaked with her balance with the crutches.

It had been a while since she'd been able to greet someone knew, but she recognized the bewildered look, and sympathized. Crutches 'taking' on the stone, she made her way over.

"Looks like you're new," she said, her voice pitched in a soothing manner. "Welcome to the City."

Another ally. But that thought was put on hold as he ran to this girl with the really odd hair color.

"Yeah, uh, thanks. Need any help?" he tilted his head to the side, taking in her injuries and the books over her shoulder. "You look like you could use a hand."

Del chuckled a bit. She felt bad for him, a little, but the offer to help made her smile.

"It takes some getting used to, this place," she nodded lightly at their surroundings. "And I'm all right. I haven't fallen once yet, and I'm almost halfway to the library."

Which was much better than her first trip. The stairs had gotten her a couple of times, in both directions. Thankfully, no one had seen her, else Tes wouldn't have let her out again.

Desmond raised an eyebrow.

"I think I'd better help you out. Can't risk further injury doing something like this, y'know?"

He shrugged and looked aside before gazing at her again, his eyes traveling briefly to her hair. "What's so weird about this place anyway? Other than what I've heard with the no escaping and the 'weird things' that happen every day."

"Good question," replied a nearby young man, giving the newcomer a small smile. One hand was in his jeans pocket, the other holding a small bag of groceries (mostly for baking, Desmond might notice if he looked closer). Today he'd decided to wear a pair of sunglasses--he wasn't sure why, but he figured it wouldn't do any harm. He'd recently found a pair in the back of a drawer, so why not?

"But eventually you get used to not really knowing what this place is about. Welcome to the City."

Yet another ally? Well at least this place seemed somewhat... safe, as far as a few of the people went. He took note of the bags and the sunglasses. They seemed a little useless in this kind of weather, but there was also something... different about the way Shinju walked.

Oh, and he wasn't looking quite directly at Desmond as far as he could tell. Was he blind?

He wrinkled his nose when the smell of blood drifted past again. "That's pretty disappointing. This might sound like a stupid question, but are you from here?"

Shinju's eyebrow twitched slightly at the foul scent, but he gave no other reaction to it. "No," he replied, "nobody is really from here, from what I can tell. We just showed up here out of nowhere. I've been living here for..."

He paused, trying to think of when he first began to meet people from other worlds.

"About a year, I think. It's hard to believe it's really been that long," he said, his second statement mostly to himself.

Desmond sighed and folded his arms. It was good information, but it wasn't really getting him anywhere. A year, though... It's not like he had anyone waiting for him back home. There was Dr. Stillman, but she was better off without him.

"A year? Jeez, that's rough..." he trailed off and leaned on one leg. "So, I have two questions, if you don't mind. First is, there's really no way out? And second..." he shoved his hands back in his hoodie pockets.

"I don't mean to be rude, but are you blind?"

Scarlett was still getting used to the appearance of new people in the city. Especially young, attractive men. Swaying her skirts and smiling timidly, she floated over to him. "Why, no-one told me that the new comers could be so handsome..."

He hadn't expected to see a freaking southern bell mince over to him on the cobblestones. Attractive though she was, and even though he hadn't really expected any of this at all.
Desmond shifted and shoved his hands into his pants pockets. "Oh. Uh. Thanks, I guess?"

With a glance, he leaned his head to the side, taking in the voluminous skirts. "Are you some historical reenactment place?"

"Oh, Good Heavens no. I'm the real thing!" she said with a little giggle. Scarlett had almost gotten used to being referred to as "historical". She wasn't fond of the idea at all, of course (it made her sound so old!), but she had to get used to it sometime.

The real thing. What the hell did that mean? She meant era-wise, probably. And if his ancestor had somehow been in this wacko City, then time travel wasn't so far out there. ... Right?

He shrugged awkwardly. "You... sure are. Miss... uh... Ms."

Raivis, unfortunately wasn't looking where he was going and walked smack dab into Desmond, falling onto his behind, and dropped of his books.

"Ow.." He mumbled, and looked up at the stranger. "Oh! Ah, s-sorry!" Raivis apologized, gathering up his thing, and took a look at the man again. "Ah, a-are you n-new?"

Does not. 8| subject_17 September 22 2009, 07:31:04 UTC
Desmond wandered around, stupidly paying less attention to his surroundings than he should have. The end result was a collision with a young boy in some kind of red uniform.

Everyone here was mismatched... What the hell kind of city was this place?

After stumbling, he regained his balance and looked down at Raivis apologetically. "Sorry little guy. Yeah, I guess I am." He stooped to help Raivis collect his strewn books into a stack before offering a hand up.

"Shoulda watched where I was going."
