Mod Post: Rules & Guidelines

Jun 08, 2009 02:18

Rules and guidelines are crucial to everyone's experience here. We want to keep things running as smoothly as possible! Rules are subject to change, however, but such changes will be noted in an update post from the mods. If you have any questions, feel free to look over the FAQ page. If your question is not answered there, you can totally ask us in that thread whatever it is you want to know!

JOINING THE COMM:

1. When you join the community, we ask that you please make an OOC introduction post in the OOC community with some contact info so we can get to know you, or know where to find you should you disappear. You don't have to disclose everything, and we're totally cool about keeping things private--but getting in contact with people helps the community stay together and we'd just like to get to know you!

2. Once you've made the OOC post, you should make an intro post into the main community. This post will be IC (in character), meaning how they first arrive within the City's walls. It's pretty straightforward and you can RP in whatever style you want--paragraph or casual, we don't really care.

ONCE YOU'RE HERE:

1. Please be courteous to your fellow players OOCly. We dislike wank. A lot. If you have a problem with harassment, please contact the mod account with a link to the thread. You will not be revealed as the poster of the link. Immediate action will follow based on the situation: A warning to the person harassing someone. Multiple infractions of this nature will lead to being banned from the community.

As far as petty drama is concerned, such as conflicts between muns? We're hoping you're all old enough to solve your own problems, but this is the internet. Just try to keep it from spreading to the whole community. If you have a problem with someone, just say it to their face IN PRIVATE. We don't care about your drama.

2. You don't have to roleplay in paragraph style. We're trying to gear this place more toward a comfortable atmosphere. If you're lazy one day and don't want to thread para for a while? That's cool! We don't mind! Just as long as you're courteous to the people you're threading with--so make sure to ask them. Ultimately this stuff is up to the individual players, so handle that at your own discretion.

3. PLEASE BE ACTIVE. If you don't want to commit to the community, don't join it. Really. We'll have occasional activity-check posts to see who's still around. Should you become unavailable through things outside your control: Life and school get in the way. Or you might get in a car accident, or lose your internet--We understand! Contact the community and let us know what's going on, if possible. We don't want to lose you because life doesn't realize how awesome we are.

4. WHEN POSTING THINGS OF THE GRAPHIC NATURE, such as drabbles, art, penance (see below) or something or other, please place it under a cut with an appropriate NSFW (not safe for work) warning.

COMM EVENTS:

1. The AIM chat is crucial for planning out events or plotting with other community members. We suggest you use Meebo, a browser-based chatting service, or some other client that uses AIM to visit the community's chat, unter allen chat. AIM is also pretty useful for contacting fellow players for logging and one-on-one plotting.

2. If you have an idea for an event, consult a mod before posting. Really. We're happy to hear your ideas. Asking's important! If you're a little confused, just wait and try to get comfy in the flow of the comm.

3. Posting style (paragraph v. casual)? We prefer you make it literate and coherent. Otherwise? We're open to how you prefer to roleplay. We're here to learn and grow and all that other fun stuff.

4. During events, we kindly ask that you REMAIN ACTIVE once you commit to it. Some events are voluntary and should you volunteer, the event may be character-driven. It's important that you tag more than one person and help move things along.

CAPSLOCK EVENTS:

1. Occasionally the community will get bored and post a capslock event. These are events in which you MUST post in ALL CAPSLOCK, ALL THE TIME. Should you break capslock (i.e., lapslock), you must serve penance. What's penance, you ask? You must post some picture/video/macro that pertains to your character that is either hilarious, embarrassing to them or both. We prefer you make it yourself, but if you're artistically challenged, you can just find something else, as long as you give credit to the original maker/post a disclaimer that it isn't yours.

Typical methods of penance have been pictures posted as thousands of images floating down from the sky in individual character journals. It leads to some hilarious interaction, but you can post it however.

Recap: Lapslocking requires funny penance in your character's journal.

2. Capslock events aren't necessarily canon--unless you want them to be. Ask the person you're threading with if you'd like a particular conversation to be canon. Otherwise? It's crack and we're just screwing around.

3. Capslock is not an excuse to throw out the IC and be completely OOC, but we're more forgiving. Generally capslock events are call for being a little OOC anyway.

INDIVIDUAL EVENTS:

1. You MAY post your own interaction posts/individual events within character journals. In fact, you're highly encouraged to do so! How you handle that is up to you.

2. Strange things appear in the City, and everything seems to be alive. That said, don't get too crazy with what goes on. Rule of thumb: Go by past examples, or just ask others what you think might be good or not! We're all pretty easy going about this stuff.

WARNING LABELS:

1. Um. Please put things under cuts with GIANT WARNINGS WE CAN SEE FROM SPACE (please don't take that literally) as to their content. If it's just G-rated, we still don't want giant walls of text or images flooding the f-list. So keep it under cuts if it takes any amount of scrolling to finish viewing it.

2. There will be adult situations here. You know, sexual activity. While that's allowed, if you intend to make a post in your character journal that leads up to such shenanigans, PLEASE POST A WARNING IN THAT ENTRY.

3. As far as adult activity in events in the main community go, you MAY partake in sexual activity. Just uh.... at least warn us in the comment title before it happens, okay? Okay, cool.

Kind of a not so wordy recap of all that's been said and a little more. The above list SHOULD NOT BE IGNORED, however, because there might be important details that could help you out! Don't wanna miss out on that, you know?

1. You must have a month of activity before apping a third character.

2. You may have four characters after a month of activity.

3. Missing an activity post will remove you from the member list--however, you may renew your membership by speaking to either the mod account or Meg through her AIM account, VerilyErgo.

4. Hiatuses are allowed, within reason. Please post why and let us know what's up in the OOC comm using the appropriate tag.

5. Make an IC post and an OOC post when you become a new member. Old members apping new characters don't have to make a new OOC post unless they really wanna.

6. Lapslock requires penance pertaining to your character during capslock events--penance images/videos should be placed under cuts with their appropriate warning labels. They do not have to be of your own making, since not all of us are freakin' Michaelangelo.

7. Posting of images/fics/long posts NEED LJ CUTS. SERIOUSLY.

8. Adult situations will happen. Get over it. But please warn us accordingly, if possible.

9. Harassment/drama will be dealt with according to the situation. Otherwise, please avoid drama at all costs. Really, it's annoying and lame.

10. Ask the mods permission before posting in the main community.

11. Individual events/interaction posts are encouraged within character journals.

12. Memes in the OOC comm are also loved and encouraged. You don't have to ask permission to post those!

13. Should you want to drop, please post a drop notice in the OOC community with the appropriate tag.

14. You don't HAVE to write in paragraph style. Some of us get lazy and revert to casual style, so you won't be looked down on for it. Trust us. We like to have fun too!
