Yesterday, I got a call from work, asking if I could cover a shift in the afternoon, since a co-worker called in. I told them that I would do it, but I was close to 40 hours for the week, so if I did the whole shift I would go into overtime. I'm sorry they're being stupid. I have unrequested advice!

Do not let either of these situations go without talking to your supervisor. Offices are like wolf packs -- they have an alpha and an omega and everyone gets to pick on the omega. And that designation has *nothing* to do with actual work ability.

My suggestion on the locker-room thing is to ask your supervisor to swing through the lockers after you've cleaned it for a week or so and then report back to the club manager that you're doing it right. This doesn't get you satisfaction for his being an idiot, but it covers your ass so tight you'll need a valve to let farts out.

Your follow through was better. You have now spread the word among the rest of the staff that you're not taking their crap. You're right, there's not much you can do about Roidin' Randy, but what you've done has probably cemented your position with everyone else.

I should've known you would've already gotten on this -- you're handling this absolutely right. Document, document, document. Sometimes just as simple as dates and times does wonders in future discussions.

Someday you'll be working somewhere and some amateur at office politics is going to try something and you'll be all "Please. I've seen worse done better." And you'll share your wisdom with youngins.
