Week One at Xavier's
Monday
It was weird waking up to a mental phone call.
Marie? Can you please come to my office as soon as you're decent. There's something I need to discuss with you.
She recognized it as the Professor's voice, but it still kind of freaked her out. Plus she had no idea how to answer. So she climbed out of bed, got ready for her day and made her way down to the office. She could find her way there in her sleep since that's where she had spent the majority of the previous week.
"Good morning, dear," Xavier greeted upon her entrance to his office. "Please, pour yourself a cup of tea and have a seat."
Marie did as requested, but got nervous, wondering if she had done something wrong and he was going to ask her to leave.
"No, dear, I'm not going to ask you to leave. I need to explain something to you before you start attending classes with the other children," he reassured her.
Still mildly freaked out by the whole mind-reading thing, she nodded, but listened to what he had to say.
Wednesday
"So where's your flaming pal?"
Marie closed her eyes and willed John to go away. She had been ignoring the smirks and curious looks he had been sending her way since Monday and she was really hoping that he would just ignore her as she was planning to ignore him.
But no such luck.
"Aw, come on, you're not holding that Statue of Liberty thing against me, are you?"
She whirled around and glared at him. "You tried to kill me."
John gave a lazy shrug and idly flicked his lighter. "It wasn't personal. It's just what the boss wanted."
"So, what, I shouldn't care about your part in it?" Marie demanded.
"I'm reformed now. Professor X is giving me a second chance to start over," John said. "'swhy I'm here."
Marie sighed. "Fine. I won't say anything to anyone about what happened." John didn't need to know that she had already promised the Professor not to talk about it. "But just leave me alone, please?"
John smirked again. "If you insist. But you know where to find me if you change your mind."
Saturday
A gaggle of giggling girls entered the mansion, arms piled high with shopping bags, an indication of a very successful trip to the mall. A few hours later, they all piled into one bedroom for a slumber party, showing off their new pajamas.
"Whattya think of Mutant High so far?" Jubilee asked, reaching for the box of ding-dongs.
Marie smiled. "It's been good," she said. "It's still not Fandom, but I'm so glad I met you guys and I'm really enjoying the classes I'm taking."
"Your other school sounds weird," Kitty decided. "I don't think I'd want to go there."
"It's where my family is," Marie said quietly. "I don't know where I'd be right now without them. After I got my powers, they accepted me, which was more than my own parents could do."
Kitty looked down, but Jubilee seemed to understand. "Well, chica, there is one important thing they failed to do when you got your powers," she informed Marie.
"There was?" Marie asked, blinking.
"Yep," Jubes said solemnly. "They didn't make you pick a mutant name."
Kitty rolled her eyes. "There's nothing wrong with not picking another name."
"It's a right of passage for every young mutant," Jubes insisted.
Marie smiled and shook her head, remembering the letter that she had gotten when her powers first kicked in. "That's an easy one," she told them. "Rogue."
The other girls considered that for a moment and then nodded. "It suits you," Jubilee declared. "You're not sweet, shy, innocent Marie anymore. You're badass Rogue."
All three girls giggled at the mental image and then the conversation switched to what boys were cutest and what teachers they'd most like to spend time with outside the classroom setting.
[ooc: obviously not for interaction. These are just some snapshots of what Marie is up to at Xavier's. I'll be posting about once a week while she's gone, giving her a little more canon experience. There will eventually be spoilers through X2 in these posts.]
