There was a researcher named Dr. Ebbinghaus who constructed a diagram which basically showed that once the human brain absorbed so much knowledge it would eventually start annexing old knowledge that was the least frequently used. But it's that forgetting curve that makes us adaptable, remember.

So, should you want to strike out and become an emu farmer, you can slowly let go of firefighting knowledge and replace it with laying schedules and incubation times without too much blood and angst!
