i am a firm believer that experience does teach you to appreciate things in a different way than if you had never experienced and only read about them. however, i dont think you can ever really see a situation clearly when you are in it. you want things to turn out one way and based on your personal disposition you will either be predisposed to see things the way you want them or the opposite if youre a pessimist. but then of course when you are the one in the situation, you know more about it than everyone you tell because there are still things that only you feel and know even if its your best friend who you tell everything too. thats my like five cents (too long to be just two).
