Rhopalic

Feb 07, 2007 15:01

A line of poetry in which each word but the first is one syllable longer than the word preceding it.

From the Greek ῥοπαλικός, rhopalikos, club-shaped, or thicker towards one end.

It's pretty difficult
to achieve rhopalic utterances
in English prosody naturally
let alone poetry!
