Title: Please don't forget me. Chapter 3
Pairing: Akame
Rating: PG-13
Summary: As promised, I have come to deliver the very next chapter right after my trip! Enjoy! :D

A week later

"Why hasn't Jin come and visit me?" Kame asked Maki. There was hurt in his eyes, and her heart wrenched.
"Umm ... Well, you know, he's rather busy at work recently. He had to take over your work ever since you were in the hospital." Maki stuttered.
"Oh, okay." He bent down his head in disappointment.

Kame had no idea why he was feeling so empty inside. Was it because of the absence of Jin? Maki had been visiting him everyday and every visit lasted for many hours. There was usually silence between them and every conversation lasted for only a few minutes; the record was a half hour. He felt bad, since Maki is his wife, but there really was nothing they could talk about. He missed Jin, and wanted to talk to him. He wanted to hear about his past from Jin, and not from Maki. Even after a week, the awkwardness between the two of them still maintained.

"Do you have Jin's number?" Kame mustered his courage to ask. He knew this question would hurt Maki but he had to see Jin.
"Why?" Maki shifted her weight from her left leg to her right.
"Er ... I have something I need to talk to him about." Kame thought of an excuse.
"Well, you can tell me and I'll pass the message for you. I think he's REALLY busy. Too busy to pick up calls even." Maki lied through her teeth. She was determined to make Kame comfortable with her again and she didn't want anybody coming in between him and Kame. Just not now.
"Then it's okay." Kame looked away, sadness was evident in his face.
"Why don't I call you for him?" Maki immediately regretted having said that. She hated to see Kame having this look on his face; it made her heart ache. But, she wanted Kame all to herself.
"Serious?" Kame's face lit up.
"Yes. I'll call him right now." Maki fished out the phone from her Chanel handbag.

"Hey, Jin." Maki tried to sound normal.
"Hello Maki. What's up?" Jin was taken aback by Maki's phone call.
"Er, Kame was just wondering why you haven't been visiting him, and I told him that it was because you were too occupied with work recently." Maki swallowed her throat.
"Okay ..." Jin knew Maki was making the call with Kame beside her.
"Umm ... Do you want Kame to come to the phone?" Maki offered. She was god damn reluctant to hand the phone to Kame, but she knew she had to; she had to do it to see Kame's smile.
"Hello Jin!" Kame spoke with much enthusiasm and his eyes were brimmed with happiness.
"What's up? I heard that you have been complaining to Maki that I haven't been visiting you."
"Eh? No I did not!" Kame protested loudly.
"Tell you what. I'll visit you tonight. I'll smuggle in for you your favourite food." Kame knew that Jin was winking, even though he couldn't see it.
"You'll bring me ice cream?!" Kame was smiling from ear to ear.
"You know, you shouldn't say it so loudly cause it'll spoil your "cool" image. Girls always had this impression that you're manly and would definitely hate sweet stuff. Only I know that you love desserts. And Maki, that is." Jin smiled.
"Oh ... Is that so? I didn't know that. I mean, yeah, how could I have known that." Kame laughed at himself for forgetting that he had lost his memory.
"Okay, so I will see you tonight. Bye!"
"Yeah! Goodbye, Jin!" And with that, Kame closed the phone and returned it to Maki.

Maki was hurting inside. Kame was showing a face that she had never seen on him before, and it was because of Jin, not her. It was a face of genuine happiness, a face full of anticipation of somebody important, a face when you're in love ...
Has Kame lost his feelings for her together with his memory? But it couldn't be! Before Kame was in coma, he loved her a lot! How can Jin be of more importance than her? They are best friends, no doubt, but since she's his wife, she should be the one he's comfortable with, not Jin! He's married with her! Not with Jin! Maki was overwhelmed with sadness, and she was trying to keep the tears from falling. She is doing well, she knows that. She has always been able to hide her emotions impeccably, and she will not fall apart now.

Jin was screaming with happiness inside when he heard Kame's voice. He missed Kame like hell and hearing his voice made him mad with elation. With the motivation to meet Kame at night, Jin aimed to finish all his work in the shortest time possible so that he will have more time with Kame. This is to make up for not seeing him in a week. He has so much to tell Kame! So much to share with him! He hasn't even told Kame all about his life before coma yet! Jin was filled with anticipation. It had been so long since he felt such excitement and anticipation towards something. He couldn't stop smiling, and his fatigue had suddenly dissipated into the air.

"Kame!" Jin said in a loud whisper when he entered Kame's ward.
"Jin!" Kame exclaimed loudly.
"Shhhh! Don't let them hear us. We're supposed to eat the ice cream discreetly." Jin took out two Cornettos from his briefcase and grinned widely as he showed them to Kame.
"Mocha for me!" Kame snatched it from Jin's hand.
"Yeah, I know. You LOVE that flavour." Jin smiled.
"You know, I was really lonely for the past week. I couldn't even talk to Maki for more than half an hour." Kame complained.
"I'm sorry ... My work pile was even taller than me. I had to finish up everything before I can spend time with you." Jin apologised, though it was not because of work that he didn't come.
"It's okay. I'll help you out once I'm discharged. I promise." Kame pat Jin's shoulder. "This way, we can both be busy together and you will not feel so alone or helpless when problems crop up. We can solve them together."
Jin wanted so badly to hug Kame, but he restrained.
"Yeah, we will be able to go against those sly old foxes in our company. I am having a hard time going against them on my own."

After finishing their Cornettos, Jin passed Kame a notebook with leather covering.
"What's this for?" Kame opened it. "It's blank."
"When we were teenagers, we loved to write stories together. Our dream was actually to become novelists and make our novels known world-wide and be translated into many different languages so that many others can read them." Jin handed Kame a gold pen.
"So we actually loved writing stories?" Kame was amazed.
"Yes, we do. As a matter of fact, we loved writing romance stories, especially on boy love."
"Boy love? What's that?"
"It's love between boys. We wanted to be different from others' love stories."
"Okay ... So are we going to write the story together?"
"Nah ... You are going to start the story, and I will continue. You get to end the story though." Jin smiled. "I'm giving you the best parts to write you know!"
"This is going to keep me company for weeks." Kame opened the leather notebook excitedly. He also felt a little relieved that this would perhaps give him an excuse not to talk to Maki and have some time alone.

"You know what, I got to go now. I'll visit you again tomorrow night." Jin stood up from the chair.
"Okay. Promise?" Kame extended his pinky towards Jin.
"Promise." Jin hooked it.

Jin couldn't stop smiling when he walked out of the ward. Seeing Kame was the best thing that happened during the week and he couldn't wait for tomorrow night. Kame is his motivation, his beacon of light when he is trapped in the dark. Kame's importance is growing, and it will eventually become his vulnerability ...
