The Morrissey soundtrack in my head

Today in the shower I suddenly remembered some baggage I'd forgotten, and I've begun to unpack it, which meant crying so hard I gagged. I can't write about it. I have a colleague who's a writer. A good writer. He does con appearances, panels, various other events where he can promote his work. He's guest blogged on a couple of relatively well-known websites, gathered acclaim for the free short fiction he's released... yet he still can't find a publisher for his novel.

You most certainly are talented. I'm sorry that doesn't directly correlate to success, but you're right, the attitude that you're amazing will help others believe in you too :-)

I'm sorry about the baggage, but happy that you can unpack it and hopefully get rid of it. It's too bad how things from back in our childhood can reach into the present and freeze us in place, suddenly deflated and small and feeling unworthy (I speak of my own baggage, and what it does to me), and all that remains is bitter regret. And if I'm a party to your baggage, help me atone.
I too like Pam's phrase "delusional amount of tenacity." I think the artist needs that, in order to get through all the stuff they have to do on top of making the great art. I know you can do it.

I will tell you from personal experience that I've encountered plenty of people who think my music is amazing and that I'm very talented and that I should be famous, and yet it would never occur to them to spend a dime on my music. That's just the way it is.

Yes! But sometimes a random passerby slips me $6 and I am touched.
