Gameplay
Premise
It all started with an invitation. You can't remember picking it up, but it seems quite official. Pressed with a strange seal, the neatly typed letter inside is a simple, cordial invitation to a city that doesn't quite ring any bells. It asks you to go to the U.W. Building to take part in a game, and provides an address. You know you've never heard of the place before, but something compels you to go. Maybe curiosity, maybe boredom, or maybe some force you can't quite put your finger on.
Eventually, a flashing neon billboard welcomes you to the city. It's got a strange name, but that seems less important than the sudden sensory overload. The billboard was only a small taste of what lies before you - tall flashy buildings with neon signs and strange architecture surround you. Everything has a state-of-the-art flair as you pass by, but you can't help but feel like there's a layer of grime on everything around you, no matter how many shiny surfaces you can see your face in.
City Hall stands at the center of the city - a decidedly old-fashioned building, especially in comparison to its surroundings. Your eyes trace the building up towards the sky, brick by brick, an imposing monument to a time this city doesn't seem like it ever even saw. The lobby is nearly empty, save for a perky receptionist. Standing and bowing graciously, she leads you into a room off to the side marked “The Rabbit Hole.” Apologizing profusely that the Mayor can't be there personally, she encourages you to pick a prize from the table. A choker, a bracelet, and an anklet - strange rewards for a deed you don't remember doing.
It fits perfectly - perhaps even a little snugly. With a winning smile, the receptionist informs you that the next room will explain the game's rules. The door behind you is locked, and there's only one way out: through a door marked “The Wolf Den.” The next room seems like a movie theater, with a screen in front and a projector high above. Without any prompting, a film reel begins to play.
Welcome to unWonderland.
The Video
“Down the rabbit hole, into the wolf den, and onto the wonderful city streets! We here at City Hall are thrilled you've chosen to stay and play our fantastic game! Before we get started, a friendly reminder from our Mayor: there is no escape! Now please, sit back and enjoy this instructional video - How to Survive!
“In this city of rabbits, there are wolves in disguise, lurking around every corner! The rabbits must join together to defeat the wolves, but there's only one problem: the wolves look like rabbits too! Who can you trust? Who's waiting to eat you alive? Only by working together can the rabbits drive off the wolves, and only through cunning can the wolves outsmart the rabbits! By working together with your fellows, you can make sure you survive the day!
“Unfortunately for you, the rabbits and wolves are only one of your concerns! Please turn your attention to your brand new fashion accessory, as it is now pumping poison directly into your bloodstream! Our new and improved deadly poison will slowly build up, leading to your agonizing death! Don't fret though, your life isn't forfeit yet! By competing in our fabulous events and competitions, you could win enough points to purchase a life saving-antidote from one of our fine retail stores!”
The character is then given a rulebook, which goes into the finer details of unWonderland.
Teams
Rabbit
Most characters will be Rabbits. These are normal players. They don't know who's a Rabbit and who's a Wolf, and it's their job to figure it out. They can attempt to execute one character a week, or they can choose to forego the execution. This limit may be increased as the number of players increases. Rabbits win when the Wolves are all dead.
Wolf
Wolves are the smaller of the two teams, and because of this they have extra knowledge. All Wolves are provided a list of other Wolves, and must attempt to kill a Rabbit once a week. If the attempt fails, that still counts, as long as the attempt was made. Wolves cannot kill more than one Rabbit a week, although if their first attempt fails they may try again. This limit may be increased as the number of players increases. Wolves win when the Rabbits are all dead.
Character Death
If your character is killed for any reason, they have two options: they can return to the city and be a nonparticipant for the remainder of the game, or they can choose to rejoin the game, for a price.
Nonparticipants
a nonparticipant is no longer in the mafia game, and cannot receive points if the team they were previously on wins. They still have to get the points for the antidote, however, so they should continue participating in the other events.
Rejoining the Game
To rejoin the game, a character must give up a memory of their choice. They will then be revived within the game, and will have a two-week immortality, to allow them to reintegrate. A character may also choose, while dead, to switch teams, at the cost of another memory. They may only do this once, regardless of how many times they die. In the event that the character is a Wolf switching to the Rabbit team, their memories will be wiped of the Wolf List.
The Poison
Every two weeks, characters need to ingest an antidote to keep themselves from dying. While the poison is being constantly injected into the bloodstream, there are no effects until the time of death, when they will feel dizzy, begin foaming at the mouth, coughing up blood, and die. There is a screen on their collar/bracelet/anklet which shows the amount of time remaining until death. Antidotes can be bought with points, or traded for a memory. The first dose is free, giving every character four in-game weeks to earn enough points.
Point System
Points are the currency of unWonderland. A character's points are kept recorded on their collar/bracelet/anklet, and there is no way to steal/transfer points, short of one character getting another to buy something for them. Points are required to receive antidotes, buy things in stores, and escape the game. Points will be tracked by the mods
here.
Food, living quarters, and ten sets of clothing tailored to each characters' tastes are provided free of charge. Anything extra they must pay for on their own. Prices may be adjusted as time goes on.

Stores Other Competitions
In addition to the main game, smaller competitions will be held. These competitions help characters to earn points, and are announced on the message board. Most are mentioned in advance, but some are surprise events. The specific competitions and points rewarded vary, and specifics are announced on each competition post. The competitions may by physical, mental, or based on luck. Points are often rewarded for participation as well as winning.
Winning and Losing
The ultimate winners and losers of the main game will be rewarded and punished accordingly. All characters on the winning team receive 500 points and will have any memories they used during that round restored. All characters on the losing team find their points reduced by half, or to 100 if that would put them under that amount. Characters are then randomly reassigned to teams, and another game begins.
Food, living quarters, and ten sets of clothing tailored to each characters' tastes are provided free of charge. Anything extra they must pay for on their own. Prices may be adjusted as time goes on.
Computers
Each character is provided a free laptop, which can be used to access their personal journal, the public message board, and a few flash game websites (note: no fandom-based flash games). If the laptop is damaged or broken they can be replaced for a fee of 200 points.
Personal Journals
Each character is provided with a personal journal they can use to communicate with the others through the network. They can filter posts to specific characters or simply leave private notes for themselves. When a character is a Wolf, they are provided with a special Wolf Filter, which, as the name implies, filters the post to only other Wolves.
Hacking
Characters with the ability to hack may hack into the filters of others, based on how difficult a specific filter is to hack. This is based on the character's technological ability. The Wolf Filter, however, is nigh-unhackable, and requires a master hacker to have a chance of cracking it, no matter who is using the filter.
Message Board
The message board is an online public mass-communication journal. The characters cannot use any filters on the message board. The Admin--the people running the game--may make filters, however, and these filters cannot be hacked. Admins will make game-wide announcements via the message board.
Communities
There are three communities in unWonderland:
unwonderland,
unwonderlandooc, and
unwonderlandmb. In addition, there is the
unwonderlandmod account.
unwonderlandThis is the main community, and the majority of the game takes place here. This is the log community, and so all posts here must be in third person, past tense, to keep things going smoothly. Posts to this community should be formatted like this:
[Title, Active/Complete, Open/Closed]
Characters: (characters in the thread)
Setting: (where the thread takes place)
Time: (Make sure to include the week number and day of the week this takes place. You may be more specific if you wish.)
Summary: (summarize what's happening/going to happen in your thread)
Warnings: (self-explanatory)
Your post goes here. [include tags]
Posts should be tagged with the name of all characters in them and the week it takes place--these tags will be provided. Additionally, completed posts should be marked with the "*complete" tag, and mature posts should be marked with the "*mature" post and flocked.
unwonderlandmbThis is the IC message board. Characters may post announcements here if they wish, and the Wolves should check here for the updated Wolf List each week. Please tag each post with the name of the character who started the post--tags will be provided.
unwonderlandoocThis is the OOC community. Introductions, hiatus announcements, drop announcements, activity checks, polls, and other such things can be posted here. Please try to keep things tagged properly--tags will be provided.
unwonderlandmodThis is the mod account--mods may post through this account, and week updates are posted here. Make sure you have this journal friended, so you don't miss any of the week updates.
Activity Checks
Once a month there will be an activity check. This is just to make sure you've been playing, and doesn't count for players on hiatus at the time of the check. When an activity check comes up, simply reply to it with the name(s) of your character(s) and a link to the last post they've made, with the date included. Examples will be given in the activity check post if you're not certain.
You may use journal/message board posts for activity checks; however, it takes two of those to meet the requirement, whereas it only takes one log. If you are constantly using journal/message board posts to meet requirements, a mod will speak to you about this.
AIM Chatroom
We have an AIM chat room; even if you're not a member, you can check us out at
unwonderlandooc. If you don't have AIM and don't wish/are unable to download it, you can also use
Meebo to participate. Hope to see you there!
Additionally, there is now a mirror chat:
