Mix #3: Me, You, and Everyone We Know.
Music for the disappointed, and, alternatively, being the flawed disappoint-ee.
For always being the one that people give up on, and forget.
And then she got to thinking about when things like this happened in real life. About when a person says, "I’m giving up" to another person, and meant it. She could hear herself asking, Am I giving up on this relationship? Or am I giving on him? And which was worse? Giving up on something you started, or giving up on something you just couldn’t help? And it hurts, because when she looked at him, she suddenly remembered why she’d started what she had. Because sometimes, he could be nicest person in the world to her, and he could get it. Get her. Get what she was all about. She imagined laughing, to the point of tears, but all there was were tears. No laughing. Just tears.

+ listen to it in order.

1. Everybody's Fault But Mine - Straylight Run
Everything has got a sense of permanence attached to it, sucks you in and feeds you until finally you're used to it.  And now you're so dependent, now you're so defensive, now you're finding reasons why they're all wrong.  So in love with all your vices, you can't change or move on, and it comes to this, such tragic endings.  Just stop pretending, now.

2. Let Me Down - No Use for A Name
She's never alone, because she's scared of what she might say to herself.  Always drinking in the backroom of the bar where everyone turns in.  A half-hearted grin.  She  looks like a cardboard cut out of someone I use to learn from.  But on the phone, she's telling everyone, that there was a blue sky, she left behind.  She writes a book in her head that nobody will read.  Whatever you say, please, don't talk about the time when she was young.  Apparently that was a different person and so long ago it's strange to me, there's no history.  But there's a past and she's telling everyone It must be a garden that wouldn't grow.

3. Don't Give Up On Me - Graham Colton Band
Don't give up on me tonight.  We've come this far, we've made good time. And all the light of the world is somewhere else.  We drove all night in this old car, the morning light the faded stars.  And every day I find I'm someone else.  But every day I get closer to myself.  And the more I make it better, the more I find I don't know.  You can ride it to forever, go as far as you can see, but don't give up on me. Don't give up on me.

4. Only One - Yellowcard
Made my mistakes, let you down.  And I can't, I can't hold on for too long.  Ran my whole life in the ground, and I can't, I can't get up when you're gone.  And something's breaking up, I feel like giving up, I won't walk out until you know.  Here I go, scream my lungs out and try to get to you.  You are my only one.  I let go, there's just no one who gets me like you do.  You are my only, my only one.

5. Shirts and Gloves - Dashboard Confessional
So many high points on this last leg.  I can't wait to recount them, it seems like nothing's happened until I've shared them with you.  The note that you had called, says you're half a day away, and you're heading home, just in time for me to leave.  I think I miss you most on Wednesdays & Saturdays.  It seems our day keeps falling on a leap year.

6. When It Goes Down - Something Corporate
When it all just fits, no more waiting up 'till midnight to see if he comes home. and it sinks in, through these holes in your old bed sheets, you might spend your life alone.  And you don't want to be alone, no not alone. And you reach so hard it makes you fall, for these hands that let you go - shouldn'tve let you go at all, no not at all.

7. Sunday Drive - The Early November
Twelve days gone by, since I have saw you last, I'll give this one more try.  I'll give it all my best, and, I'll ask, what could you be doing that is so much fun without me by your side? And, I will take a step back, and, I'll let you ahead, I will take a step away, and, see if you come back, because there's no more trying to make this so right.  Theres no more trying, theres no more trying tonight.  We will never be the same, until you're done.

8. Light Years Away - Mozella
It's almost like you had it planned.  It's like you smiled and shook my hand and said, "Hey, I'm about to screw you over, big time"  And what was I supposed to do?  I was stuck in between you and a hard place.  We won't talk about the hard place. It left me half dead, inside my head. And boy, looking back I see, I'm not the girl I used to be.  It's how you wanted it to be, It's like you played a joke on me and I lost a friend, in the end. I'm never going back to who I was.

9. Killing Me - Cauterize
I wonder where you are.  Please don't come around tonight, cause I can't stand to see you and I don't want to fight.  Gimme one more drink and I swear I think I'll be ready to make the same mistakes again with you.  I finally figured out that you're not coming back and I'm not going anywhere.  You were the one with all the faith how did you let it slip away?  That's right, I'm blaming this all on you and the little things you didn't do.  We both knew that you were stronger, could have fought a little longer.  You didn't hold it tight enough. you lost your grip and I slipped right through your fingers.

10. Midnight Highway - Daphne Loves Derby
Your bitter goodbye is ringing through this quiet night, this idle hour just wont pass. I've never missed you this much, never thought I would, didn't think you'd feel so far away.  Your summer perfume is still blowing through this hallway, autumn's amber red shadows dance.  I'm thinking of your vague reply, so I can understand, why we put this at rest, why we forget to say that we were leaving, and say that we were sorry, The past remains unspoken as this vacant night is dying.

11. The Last Something That Meant Anything - Mayday Parade
Well I thought that we could sit around and, talk for hours, about things I couldn't say to you, and things that we could never do. And this conversation has had no face, when the words take days you can re-write and erase anything.  And I'll borrow words from all my favourite paragraphs, to write about all of these faded things, we hope would mean the most to me.  And as each line is sent, I've found new pages of hope for the days when I fell like I've lost everything. You know my heart knows all these lines, so I'll sing this song for every word that's come out lost.  But, I'll be okay, is that what you want me to say?

12. Easier to Lie - Aqualung
And do what's right, when everything is wrong.  It's easier to run, it's easier to never have to look you in the eye.  To bear the weight, and push into the sky.  It's easier to lie.
