Summary - it's the morning of the second show in Paris, and Gackt is still wandering the streets
Notes - this follows on from yesterday's fiction -
Hitori. Futari (二人) is Japanese for two people...
Gackt had taken a different route this morning. These Parisian streets were also empty and quiet, just like those he had walked the day before, but they were lacking in bakeries. His sweet tooth was screaming again and those apple pies had been so good, but the fitness freak in him was screaming even louder so he’d purposely begun walking in the opposite direction from those lovely bakeries.
Gackt thought that these streets were even quieter than the ones he’d wandered down yesterday. It was hard to reconcile this city with the one that had screamed for him and his band members the night before at the first live of the tour. It would have been even harder for any fans that had been at that live to reconcile the lonely baseball cap wearing man that was walking the streets with the powerful superstar that had owned the stage.
Gackt didn’t feel like a superstar as he stopped at a set of traffic lights and waited for his turn to cross the street. He felt remarkably normal, plain and boring, and that was exactly how he wanted it.
He crossed the street and was surprised to see that hidden around the corner was the park he had been looking for yesterday. It was the opposite side of the hotel to where he had thought, but he had never had the greatest sense of direction. You would never let him even touch the map when they had taken road trips in the past. He wouldn’t let Gackt drive either, but that was fine by Gackt as it meant he could sleep and You had always been cute when he was concentrating and trying to multi-task.
The park was small but well kept, with lots of lush green grass and trees lining the fences. The sun was hanging low in the sky and it was starting to bring a bit of warmth to the streets, so Gackt found a bench that was partially shaded by some trees and sat down.
There were a few people starting to enter the park. Dog walkers, runners, insomniacs like himself… Nobody noticed him as they hurried past and although he saw them, Gackt hardly noticed them. Gackt was enjoying the peace and quiet and simply enjoying the fresh air and music created by the birds that inhabited the park. He didn’t get time to simply sit and appreciate his surroundings anymore, and he knew that sitting in one of Tokyo’s rare parks on his own was impossible.
He’d worked hard for his fame and was determined to never give it up, but some days, he wished he could just step away from it all for a few hours and be just another nameless face in the crowd.
Like he was in Europe.
Gackt was so lost in his thoughts that he didn’t notice the figure that approached his bench from the side. It wasn’t until a hot Starbucks coffee cup was waved under his nose that he realised he was no longer alone.
“I guessed Starbucks wasn’t open yet when you walked past,” You said softly, “so I thought I’d get you a cappuccino.”
Gackt smiled as he accepted the cup and watched as You sat down next to him. As he took a sip from the cup, his whole body felt warm. He knew it wasn’t just the effect of the coffee. “Thank you,” he said. “How did you know where I was?”
“I knew that the bakeries you visited yesterday were to the east of the hotel, so I thought you’d go west today,” You explained. “I saw the park while I was walking and just knew you’d be here. I can’t really explain it any better than that. I just knew.”
Gackt nodded. It was explanation enough.
“How long have you been wandering around?” You asked.
Gackt glanced at the sky. He had no idea. “What time is it now?”
“Seven-thirty.”
“About two hours then,” Gackt hummed. “Why are you up so early? You’re never normally awake at this hour.”
“I’m awake because I knew you’d be wandering the streets again,” You answered. “You don’t need to do this alone, if you don’t want to.”
Gackt took a sip of his cappuccino, but said nothing.
“I’ll always walk with you, if you ask,” You softly said.
“You need at least eight hours sleep and four cups of coffee before you’re functional in the morning,” Gackt said.
“So, call me when you first wake up. I’ll have more than enough time for four cups of coffee while you’re getting ready,” smiled You.
Gackt couldn’t help but return You’s smile. “And the eight hours of sleep? How do you plan on making up for that?”
“I guess you’ll just have to keep a close watch on me and stop me from sleep walking into any lampposts.”
Gackt’s smile turned into laughter and this time it was You’s turn to join in.
The quickly fell into a comfortable silence that was broken only by the assorted sounds in the park. There were fewer people walking their dogs and running than there were before, but now the park was being visited by school children and businessmen that used the park as a shortcut to their destinations. Although Gackt couldn’t understand their words, not anymore, he could hear the laughter and joy in the voices of the school children as they walked past and he wondered if he’d ever been that carefree when he was a child.
He’d been so weighed down by his career and stresses of his own making for so long that it was hard to remember a time when he had been as carefree as those children.
“I came here for some solitude and quiet,” Gackt said, breaking the silence for reasons he couldn’t quite understand, “for a break from everything and to simply not be me for a few hours.”
“Oh…” You said sadly. “Do you want me to leave?”
“Never.”
“Good,” You replied, firmly, “because I’ll always be here to keep you company, you know that, right?”
Gackt closed his eyes. “Yes.”
And he did know that. Truly.
“I’ll always be here,” You repeated, “but I do need a coffee occasionally to stay awake if I’m going to be on Gackt-time.”
Gackt was laughing as he handed his cappuccino back to You. “Take it - it’s a little cold for me now,” Gackt explained, “I like my drinks red hot.”
“I know,” You answered, “so, why don’t we head back to the hotel and get a fresh one? My treat.”
Gackt stood up and held his hand out to the still seated You. You took Gackt’s hand with a smile as the singer helped him to his feet. “You’re buying me two coffees in one morning?” Gackt said. “I am honoured.”
“Don’t get used to it,” You said as they began walking out of the park, “and I expect you to buy me lunch.”
“Anything you ask for,” Gackt replied.
They walked back to the hotel, via Starbucks, in silence, but that was okay. Whether You spoke to him or not, Gackt knew he wouldn’t feel alone as long as You was by his side.

Notes
1) No, tomorrow isn't going to be sannin (three people)!
2) I can't decide if Gackt and You are a couple in this, or just friends. You can decide for yourselves.
