Summary - they both know what is happening, and they both know why...
It’s not an actual relationship.
They aren’t in love.
It only happens when Gackt is stressed and the weight of his career and the expectations placed upon him become too much even for his broad shoulders. Whenever Gackt finds that his schedule is packed so tightly that he barely has time to breathe, and he has too many demands to cater to and not enough time, energy or desire to fulfil them, that’s when it happens.
It only happens when You is feeling homesick and that modest, but homely apartment that belongs to him, and him alone, seems too far away. Whenever You finds himself yearning for his own bed, his own four walls, his friends, family and dog, that’s when it happens
It happens because You makes Gackt feel normal. He’s not a superstar being pulled in fifteen different directions when You is kissing him. There are no deadlines, timescales or twin vocals to work on when You’s hands are roaming over his skin.
It happens because Gackt makes You feel like he’s home. He isn’t a million miles away from that apartment in Tokyo or his family home in Kyoto when Gackt is kissing his neck. It doesn’t matter that the bed beneath him isn’t his own and is in some plain hotel in Germany when Gackt’s body is pressing him into the mattress.
Neither of them are under any illusions. They’re using each other, albeit in a mutually beneficial way. There will be no declarations of love or broken hearts as neither of them want anything more than comfort and familiarity.
You has a girlfriend.
Gackt has several.
It will never be anything more than it already is.
They both know that their nights together are solely due to the career path they’ve chosen to walk together. They also both know that the nights will continue as long as their careers continue. It’s what they both need to do to remain sane amidst the stress and the distance.
When Gackt finally retires and steps away from his music and acting, and when You follows him and hangs up his guitar, it will end. They both know this.
Gackt also knows that he never wants to retire, and will continue overloading his schedule so that the stresses continue to be too much.
You also knows that he never wants to stop playing guitar, and will continue to travel as far away from home as he possibly can.
They both know how it will end, but neither of them will admit that they never want it to.
