Summary - Gackt is once again taking part in the Kenshin festival but that soldier by his side seems familiar...
Notes - set at the Kenshin Festival, 2010

He was tired, exhausted even, and he could feel a disgusting layer of sweat running across his skin underneath the bulky armour that he’d had to wear despite the blistering August Joetsu sun. He wanted nothing more than to peel every item of clothing from his boneless, wet body and drown himself in his hotel room’s shower.

But there was time for that later. As Gackt carefully dismounted the brilliant white horse that had served him so well today, despite the heat, the screaming crowds and the demands of the parade, he took a lingering glance at the soldier by his side.

He’d seen the soldier during the parade. The soldier had been at his right hand side every step of the way and although the added height the horse gave him meant that he couldn’t see the soldier’s face, the regulation helmet obscuring his view, there was something about that soldier that made his skin tingle with familiarity and a warmth that had nothing to do with the sun.

The soldier was watching him closely and it took Gackt’s tired mind a few seconds to catch up with and believe the information his eyes were providing.

“You?” Gackt could barely find the strength to voice the name. The sight of his You, dressed in the armour of Uesugi Kenshin’s army to support Gackt in yet another way was enough to steal his very breath.

“Surprise…” You said softly. “You are surprised right?”

You received his answer when Gackt swept him into a hug so tight and forceful that it nearly knocked him off his feet.

All of the tiredness dissolved from Gackt’s limbs as soon as You slotted into his arms. “What are you doing here?!”

“I think you look hot as a samurai,” You answered with a grin.

Gackt laughed and took a step back from You, his arms no longer crushing the soldier to his chest but instead just holding him loosely. “You came all of this way, dressed in all of that armour and marched in the sun for hours just because you think I look hot as a samurai?”

You’s grin changed into a sweet but shy smile. “I love watching you be a samurai, Gakkun. It’s like you were always destined to be one but were just born in the wrong time period. I just wanted to be a part of that, to support you and to be by your side. It’s my favourite place to be.”

Gackt looked at the soldier stood before him. You’s helmet was now lying on the floor and his deep brown eyes were fixed on Gackt with such love and strength that Gackt felt like it should be You wearing the samurai armour as he ran alongside. He always felt so weak when he stood next to You’s strength.

“If I had been born a few centuries ago and had become a samurai, you’d have been there, wouldn’t you? Running alongside me into battle, even if it meant your certain death.”

“Of course,” You replied. “Where else would I have been? I’ll always be by your side Gakkun, no matter where or when we are.”

Gackt kissed him then, the kiss nothing more than the gentlest touch of lips against lips but it was enough. Gackt had always been able to show the true depth of his feelings through his actions rather so than his words. “I believe you.”

“Good,” You grinned, “because you’re going to have to get a restraining order to get away from me.” Gackt’s laughter was like music to his ears. “How about we get out of this heavy and sweaty armour and spend the night in your hotel room watching trashy movies and eating trashy food.”

You knew as well as Gackt did that any trashy food ordered would only be eaten by You and any trashy movie screened would only be watched by Gackt but that was fine. As long as they were by each others sides, that’s all they needed.
