Day 07. I picked the number four in the summary at random..
“Satoru, it’s 4am. What could you possibly want at 4am that can’t wait for another few hours?”
You gripped the phone in his hand tighter and pulled his blanket over his head. It was 4am. He’d been asleep in his nice, warm and comfortable bed, dreaming of asking out the girl who worked at the local library, when the phone had rang. Satoru sounded insanely chirpy and happy considering he’d spent most of the last couple of weeks on the phone to You, wishing death and destruction in the most painful of ways on the band who’d unceremoniously kicked him out for reasons that You still didn’t know.
An angry and upset Satoru was never good at answering straight questions.
“I’ve had an epiphany, You-kun,” the cheerful voice on the phone said, “and the name is Gackt now. Don’t forget that.”
“Can’t the epiphany wait?” You asked. If he was going to deal with Satoru’s mood swings again, then he needed coffee first. Lots of coffee.
“No,” Gackt answered. “Epiphanies are very spur of the moment. They need to be talked about and acted on as soon as they hit you.”
You punched the mattress beneath him in frustration. “Trust you to get an epiphany at 4am, Satoru.”
“It’s Gackt, You-kun, Gackt,” Gackt reminded him. “Don’t you want to hear about my epiphany?”
“Do I have a choice?” You groaned.
“Well, you could always hang up on me but you’d never do that to your dearest friend in his time of need would you?” Gackt asked.
You sighed theatrically, hoping that the man on the other end of the phone who dared to disrupt his beauty sleep heard it and then sat up, the blankets pooling around his waist. He knew that even if he did hang up, Satoru would only call back and You, being the reliable and practical guy that he was, would never dream of unplugging the phone just in case something bad happened and Satoru knew that. You had no choice but to listen.
“Since the day I met you, Satoru, it’s constantly been your time of need,” You said with a yawn.
“It’s Gackt. GACKT,” Gackt repeated loudly. “You’re an amazing person, You-kun. It’s really your fault that I need you all of the time.”
“I didn’t think it was possible, but you’re full of even more bullshit at 4am than you are during normal hours,” You stated.
You heard a quiet choking sound which was undoubtedly Satoru stifling a chuckle. It was one of many habits, bad habits in You’s eyes, which Satoru had picked up since he went to chase his dream in Tokyo. “Can I tell you about my epiphany now?”
“I’m sure there isn’t a force in this world that could stop you, Satoru.”
Gackt sighed. “Please call me Gackt, You-kun. You really need to remember that if you’re going to be in my band.”
“I didn’t mind you using that name in Cains:Feel but to expect me to call you that all of the ti…” You paused. “Wait, what? Your band? Me in it?”
Gackt didn’t even bother trying to stifle his laughter this time. “You were a bit slow on catching that. Still not a morning person, huh? That was my epiphany. Being kicked out of Mizer by the evil witch of death,” Mana, of course, “isn’t the door closing on my career, but the gates of the world opening on my future.”
You groaned. “Satoru, it’s far too early for philosophical shit like that.”
“The name is…”
“Gackt, I know,” You interrupted. “I’ll try to remember.”
“I always said we’d take on the world together and this is our chance. Mizer would never have made it out of Japan but we can, You-kun. We can do anything we want, you just have to play guitar for me again.”
“Can we discuss this later, Satoru, when I’m more awake? Is that okay?” You asked.
Gackt groaned unhappily, indicating that it was far from okay but agreed anyway. “Sure. I’ll call you again later as I need to call Ren too anyway. But You-kun, please, call me Gackt. Can you do that?”
You lay back down in his bed and pulled the covers over his head again. “Yes, Gackt.”
