“I can’t feel my fingers,” You complained.

Chacha looked up from tuning his guitar. “Stop exaggerating, You.”

“I’m not exaggerating,” You said as he stared at his fingers. Were they turning blue? “It’s really cold in here.”

Chacha sighed and placed his guitar back in its stand. He wrapped his pink cardigan around himself before speaking. “I know it’s cold but we don’t need to worry about body parts dropping off.” Chacha could see his breath as he spoke. “Well, not yet anyway.”

It was winter. There was a thin layer of snow on the ground, unusual for Tokyo especially at this time of the year, and the heating system in the recording studio that they were using was broken. The majority had wanted to either cancel recording or move to another studio but band leader and he-who-must-be-obeyed Chacha, had told them all to wrap up warm, wear more layers and quit whining.

Chacha was beginning to regret that decision.

“I think it’s perfectly fine in here. A little cool maybe but completely tolerable,” Gackt interrupted.

Gackt was sat next to You, his head bowed over the new lyrics as he tried to commit them to memory. You looked over the expensive fur coat and the thick gloves that Gackt wore and scowled. It was okay for Gackt, he just had to stand there and sing. He could wrap himself up in as many layers as he needed to and it wouldn’t matter but You had to keep his fingers bare and be able to move fluidly in order to play the guitar.

“That’s because you’re dressed for a trek across the Antarctic,” You snapped. “We can’t do that.”

Gackt scowled back. “You can wear whatever you like when you’re sat here doing nothing.”

“Doing nothing?” You exclaimed. “And what are you doing…”

“Let’s not argue about it,” Chacha interrupted. The last thing they needed was for You and Gackt to start one of their never ending arguments. They only had the studio for another five days. “We’re in this situation so let’s just do the best we can.”

“No, Cha,” You said, “I’ve had enough. If it isn’t warm in here tomorrow then I won’t be here. Those little heaters,” You said as he pointed to a couple of electric heaters in the corner that had been hastily purchased a few days ago, “just aren’t good enough. I want it to be warm.”

Chacha opened his mouth to speak but Gackt was quicker. “It’ll be warm tomorrow, You. I guarantee it.”

You paused for a second. He had known Gackt long enough to know that his friend’s guarantees were usually a sure bet but as the guy from the heating company had said that there was no way of fixing the heating for at least another three days, something to do with having to obtain the necessary parts from Norway or somewhere equally cold and distant, You found it hard to believe Gackt’s guarantees this time.

It was early in the morning and You was wrapped up warm in layer upon layer of blankets. He’d stayed in one of the guest rooms in Gackt’s house that night as it was more convenient for the recording studio and because Gackt had the most comfortable and warm blankets in the known universe. As much as You wanted to make a little fort out of the six blankets he currently lay under, he knew that he needed to get up and go to work.

If the studio was still cold, however, it was back to fort building.

He was still half asleep as he walked into the kitchen and almost didn’t notice Gackt sitting at the breakfast bar with a glass of oddly coloured fruit juice in his hand. There was a news report playing quietly in the background and after a quiet grunted greeting to Gackt, You began making his breakfast.

“…snow plaguing Tokyo has disappeared…. unseasonal warmth… sun… mini-heatwave… no snow boots needed this week folks!”

You nearly dropped the carton of eggs in his hands.

“What was that?” You said. “What did that say?”

“Hmm?” Gackt asked absentmindedly. “It was just the weather report.”

You stared out of the window. No snow. Last night there had been snow. Every damn night for the last fortnight, there had been snow. But today, no snow.

You quickly turned to face Gackt. “What did you do?”

Gackt looked at You blankly. “I don’t think I’ve done anything.”

“No, no,” You said shaking his head, “you said yesterday that you’d guarantee it’d be warm in the studio today. Look outside Gaku - there’s no snow and the sun is shining! Your cleaner doesn’t even have a coat on!”

Gackt stood up from the breakfast bar and walked over to the window. “No, she doesn’t. Hmm, she missed a bit on the pathway…”

“Never mind that,” You exclaimed. “How did you do it?”

“I didn’t do anything,” Gackt said with an amused smile on his face.

You contemplated his long time friend for a few moments before it hit him. “You’re a super-villain. I always knew it! You have some big weather controlling machine hidden away somewhere don’t you?” Gackt merely laughed. “You probably have James Bond tied up in the cellar.”

“You,” Gackt said, his voice dropping to a dangerously low pitch, “there’s only one man I want tied up in my house.”

“I… wha?”

Gackt chuckled. You was always racing to extreme conclusions and forever missing the obvious. “You heard me.”

You had no answer.

“If it’ll make you feel better,” Gackt said as he started walking out of the kitchen, “I’ll let you tie me up first.”

You could only meekly follow Gackt to his bedroom. His first action upon entering the room was to run to the air conditioner because suddenly, You felt so hot that he thought he was going to burn.
