How to make a Macy's customer distressed and uncomfortable.

Apparently Macy's now contracts out its credit management to one company, and it contracts out its check approval management to another, and both companies seem to have it as their goal to be sure Macy's not only doesn't sell any merchandise but upsets its customers as well so that they will be uncomfortable returning to the store. I had the most ( Read more... )

I'm honestly surprised they even would let you pay with a check, since so many places now are doing away with check payments. Personally, after the first round, I would have just said "nothing personal to the cashier, but you guys just lost my business" then bought what I wanted, elsewhere.

Well, it didn't really get weird until my check was denied. Until then it all made sense and I was in no particular hurry. But once the check was denied I needed to find out why -- since that was an especially upsetting thing and made no sense to me. So I was going to see that one out.

I find paying by check for anything all kinds of weird. The last time I paid by check was a certified cheque for a new car. Australia has been fully electronic for about 15 years.

Macy's Inc. uses a firstname.lastname@macys.com e-mail address scheme as far as I can tell. Their Chief Stores Officer is Ronald Klein. I'm guessing Ronald.Klein@macys.com will get to him or a mailbox that his support team monitors. No idea if you'll get a response but you never know.

If anything it's worth attempting to let them know how crappy their various vendors are and the fact about your card getting canceled. Might not be worth the effort to you but it's a thought.

As an aside though, you're right about lack of customer service. I recall a few years ago before we were acquired looking at the distribution list for feedback@companyname.com and finding it was empty. Sigh. On the plus side, when I brought it to peoples' attention it was corrected. No idea how long it was like that though.

No -- they were quite specific in explaining to me that this was not the case, apparently concerned about the public image there.

JUST had this happen today and unfortunately I was 2 hrs from home, where my nearest Macy's is. I only deal in checks and cash and never had an issue before at Macys. Wrote my check today, but it was denied. On the phone they go and after lots of questions...denied. How awkward and stranding, far from home armed with checks and lots of cash in checking acct but CANNOT BUY ANYTHING. I had enough cash on me to get a couple of the smaller things but that was it. I changed my address about 5 months ago but acct and name is still the same. VERY FRUSTRATING...I basically turned around and went home.
