...they have taken my paints. I had a set of very expensive oils that reacted with canvas when charmed to produce a moving picture rather like a wizarding photograph but painted, and they have taken them away. Luckily my wireless is a Muggle radio that is fixed to pick up both our and their programmes, so that remained, but they took my paints ( Read more... )

I don't think you can become a preacher fast enough to make September bills, Dean. Unless you're going to be one of those blokes who walks the pavement in dirty clothes while having a yell about doomsday prophecies. Don't think there's much money in that, though.

I have enough for the bills, luckily, just not anything else at the moment. Job applications are being filled out.

Does this mean you're no longer in need of models?

I still would love models, but I'm afraid it'll be pencil sketching, possibly pen and ink.

They took some of my paintings too.

Oh Dean, that's awful. I hope you get them back, when all's said and done. I have some sheets of self-playing music--tap your wand on them and they play--but I guess they overlooked them. Oh and I'm still happy to model but I don't want to be coming round and interrupting your job hunt.

Please come and interrupt my job hunt? I would even pay you for it!

I'll keep my ears open, Dean.

With the attitude those inspectors are taking, I suppose it's too much to hope they left you a receipt and instructions for how you might recover your oils?

No, they didn't. Perhaps there is someone to appeal to though, of course, you don't want to upset an artist.

Political paintings aren't my thing usually, but for this I might make an exception.

I wouldn't mind seeing something in the manner of Goya's black paintings involving the key players of this travesty.

Inspiration hits, of course. Thank you, Hermione.

What do most people think of artists these days? I thought anyone with interesting ideas and a modicum of talent had a shot at a comfortable living, if not becoming rich as a Quidditch star.

And I still think your paintings will be better for having people doing rude and nasty things to each other inside the windows.

Ah, but they are the ones who sell out to corporate entities and end up churning out mass-produced works not for art's sake, but for money.

Shall I do you something vicious to stop you saying that?

Mass-produced? How many sharks did that bloke get his hands on then?

Touchy about your work are you?

Damian Hurst is nothing but a shock-merchant.

Not really, I was just making a genuine offer.

We could use an extra hand, if you don't mind lifting boxes or have a fear of portkeys.

I'd enjoy that very much. When would you need me? You wouldn't need to pay me, either, as you are old friends and therefore I'd feel rather strange taking money off you for something that I'd rather do as a favour.

Nah, mate, it is for money. We'll hire you to help with the move. Wouldn't want our resident starving artist to actually starve, yeah?

Are you sure? That would be wonderful, really, I can't thank you enough, as long as you are sure then yes, yes please, thank you so very much.
