My response to this would be to not take a year off from school. Not because I'm the type to say, "School is teh rox0rz!! If ur not in sk001, ur not c001!!" But rather, I have heard from many people who took a year off of school that it was the most boring year of their life. They didn't have money to do anything, and they missed being around all of their friends. They couldn't wait to go to school again. Now, I don't know if that would have been a very motivating thing to do well in school, but it may have. Then again, I don't think that you give a shit about how well you do, as long as you graduate.

“Taking a year off is a highly desirable educational opportunity, and we wish more students would take advantage of it [...] Students who take a year off before college are often more mature and better able to handle the academics."
---Karl Furstenberg, Dean of Admission at Dartmouth

"It has become a matter of institutional dogma at Harvard that a year off before college is a Good Thing."
---Dan Rosenheck, Harvord Crimson Staff Writer.I think these quotes are good to keep in mind, as I agree that it could be a good decision to figure yourself out for a year before attending school. I also however agree with Adam that it has a high potential to be the most boring year of your life. I for instance am taking the entire month of January (it's called J-Term) off of school, and after everyone left when their breaks ended, I was left here by my lonesome finding myself doing nothing but sleeping the days through and working when I was scheduled. If you think you can make yourself find a financial means to stay on your feet and have things to ( ... )

i say don't take a year off. art school is pretty leniant anyways so it's not like regular school.

plus, rent in mpls is crazy high, and no job an 18 yr. old with minimal experience can get will hold down the rent. you'll be working more than you will be figuring yourself out!

i say just jump in head first. you can ALWAYS leave if it isn't for you, but it's nearly impossible to get back in if you aren't sure.

did you go home to sleep today? you seemed pretty bad

I don't know. I'm sort of neutral, maybe I can come along and disscuss it with you and charlie. While I know I'd never take a year off, I am having to think about where I'm going to live next year. And it's difficult. Shall we all get together?
