The TSA crossed a line

Nov 21, 2010 20:07

Over the years in these pages I defended the TSA and their security measures taken in the wake of September 11th. I felt most of standards and procedures were reasonable based on the moronic twisted rules (No profiling for one) the TSA is forced to work under.

That was until I saw this video:

Reinforcing that these new 'enhanced pat-downs' are purely to punish those that refuse the full-body scanners, now that one or more airports announced that were cancelling their contract with the TSA and were switching to a private security firm, the TSA has released briefs stating that private security firms would still have to commit these enhanced pat-downs. Utter bullshit and rubbish, and I agree. I wish I had $500 to spare before I went through an airport again, so I could buy a full-body lead-apron set including the hat and face mask, etc. Stuff's pat-down-proof just to frustrate them further, but modern stuff is non-metallic so I could pass a metal detector just fine. =^.^=

Yeah, I'm gonna go with "SEE! SEE! THIS IS WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT!"

The BS we've dealt with the last few years was the prep for what's happening now.

There is no "beginning" to cross lines. They crossed those lines the day they passed the Patriot Act *hack spit*.

I just hate that I was right, and that we'd end up in a situation like this one.

I am admitting there are lines being crossed in this case. Could you outline the lines you believe were crossed from day one?

Wait a minute. I have a better idea...

By the power vested in my as curator of these pages I declare thee to be lord and master of all things security related. I charge thee with securing the nation from all threats, internal and external. Each and every person within our borders is now looking to you to keep them alive. The safety of the critical infrastructure is all on you.

How are you going to it?

Jesus, that is over the line, isn't it? It's like some amateur pedo-porn video. Ew.

I do get to feel smug because when I first heard the plan for Z-backscatter images or pat-downs of all passengers, I said aloud to the person who told me, "Oh, Americans are not gonna stand for this once their wives and kids are involved." It's a cultural thing about personal space and privacy. In Japan there are pushers hired to cram as many bodies into commuter trains as possible, but if you tried that here, there would be a riot. All that has to happen is for those airport images to get stolen and internet-posted (and they will be) of someones elderly mother or 9 year old daughter stark naked, and the public opinion excrement will hit the fan.

I am definitely going to refuse the scanner and get a pat-down. Then I'm gonna act like I enjoy it, really really loudly. *coquettishly* Sure you didn't miss a spot, officer?

When you do that, let me know when and where. I will buy a ticket just to watch that.

I'm not going to get heavy into this, because truthfully, I want no piece of it. Really, I don't.

But you don't think there are folks out there using the idea that a parent may have planted something on a child as justification for what happened? It's just one justification after another, and if they can do it to me, why not to the child next to me?

Obviously, I don't approve of what happened. All I'm saying is that the line you're talking about might not be as clear to them as it is to you or me. And I understand, on that note, why some people believe the line was crossed ages ago.
