i'm an english major as well, and i definitely have the same problem. actually, i'm infamous for going on chocolate hunts when i have a huge paper due - it's a great way to procrastinate, and then i have something tasty to occupy myself with as i write. good luck with your dissertation and exams!

Ah apologies for my ambiguity - I'm not actually reading English, I just meant I am English!

I'm reading Human Sciences which is Psychology, Biology, Linguistics, Anthropology and Philosophy :)

It's all about the choccy too good call!

I find the best way to overcome this is to let myself be distracted - on a schedule. I work for 50 minutes of every hour, then spend the last ten minutes doing something else, like reading lj or going for a walk or doing the washing up.

Yeah I do the same - I have a strict schedule but it involves many coffee breaks/time for walks etc. It's just that even when I sit down with the internet off I still just get this feeling of doom before I actually get stuck in :)

I know the feeling :) I find that if I just soldier on through the first 20 minutes or so I get sucked in and stuff starts to flow though.
