Okay so here is a big rambly post about the Heather Peace show last night and how lovely she is and the story of how I ended up with hearts in my eyes for an hour and a half.
The venue is tiny. It's really small and intimate and lovely and the support act was AMAZING. She's so cute and talented and lovely sweet and funny and ugh I love her. Her family were there and it was just super sweet.
Anyway so Heather came on stage and I was like sdfgsdkfhajd;jfadsifkj. And she was amazing, of course. Her voice is just so powerful and completely overwhelming and it was an amazing experience to just listen to her. At one point during "Thank God For You" I just closed my eyes and kind of let her voice wash over me and there are no words to describe that feeling. The friend who I went with says that he loves the emotion that is always present in her voice and in that moment I experienced that like never before. I don't know, man. It's tough to describe it but it was incredible.
And she was constantly hilarious and sweet and chatty between songs. Talking about her first girlfriend and how not realising she was gay was a waste because she went to an all-girls Catholic school. Talking about how on the back of London's Burning they wanted her to release Eternal Flame, saying that the kids on Waterloo Road were completely fine when it came to her sexuality because "they're stage kids, they're used to a few puffs and lezzers", but then discussing
Diversity Role Models and how the workshops really do a lot of good. Telling the audience they needed to be quiet because she was working up to the just vocals, piano and violin bit. "It's the title bloody track!"
She sang the entire album, which was of course amazing. And for the encore she covered "Feelin' Good" and Ellie Goulding's "Starry Eyed", both of which were completely amazing. And then she just raced off to the merch stand so that she could speak to, and sign for, every single person. The fact that she's willing to do this (and clearly really enjoys meeting every person) is really awesome to me. She genuinely wants to meet her fans and really appreciates us, it's so clear. And I love that. A lot.
So in the line I was convinced I'd totally embarrass myself and could not stop focussing on her frilly sleeved shirt and making jokes about it. I meet her, we get a picture, and my friend is standing behind me, so I do make the joke about the "gay Casanova pirate" shirt and she seemed to actually find it quite amusing so that was good. (I did say "you look like a gay, Casanova pirate and it's the best thing I've ever seen" - clearly a compliment.)
Basically, it was all-round fantastic and I encourage everybody to listen to her music because she's fantastic. And I'll include the picture because it's not my favourite picture of me but I still love to remind myself that I met Heather Peace.
