PaperBackSwap

Jul 05, 2007 14:36

During the last month or so I've become utterly, totally obsessed with PaperBackSwap.  I posted about it on MissMalaprop.com a couple of weeks ago, but I know not everyone on my friends list reads that, and I know that I have a lot of book lovers on my f-list and this is something that I think all bookworm types should be a part of.

Haha, well I got the CP books to read and then give to my Little Sister. So I might let her keep those if she wants them. If not, I'll relist them on PBS though ( ... )

I finally joined, after you pushing for weeks/months ;)

If anyone else knows me, friend me at: ashe.mischief@gmail.com

I just ordered two Jeanette Winterson books I do not have! !!!
(Erm. I thought I was supposed to be clearing out books, too, not ordering ones I'll never part with. that's okay, I doubt I'll find all of these film books, anyhow.)

Yay! I'm telling you, it's totally addictive. Especially if you get all into the lists. One day at work I copied over like every book on my Amazon Wish List to my PBS wish lists and reminder lists.

Even when I do buy books, I've been trying to buy them used on Amazon so I figure this is a million times better & cheaper.

But yeah....I'm not doing so well lately on getting rid of books and clearing space. But I figure some of the young adult fiction I've been ordering I'll pass on to my Little, so.... that's something?

I haven't figured out the difference between wish lists and reminder lists (But I did add MOST of my Amazon wishlist to the PBS wish list. And then some :X). And some other things were confusing the hell out of me, too.

The only time I don't buy used on Amazon is if the book is the same price/almost the same price. I don't see the point in buying a janky worn copy for $23 + shipping when I can buy it new for $25 + free shipping. That's just Ashley Logic, though, not necessarily rational logic.

Think of Wish List like stuff you really want to read. Because if it gets posted into the system, you'll get a heads up that you can get it and then you'll have to use a credit on it and you'll receive it. I've been using reminder lists for stuff that like, I want to read longterm, but even if it's posted into the system I don't feel like getting it right away.

It took me a little while to sort of figure out all of the lists and stuff. But its easy once you get the hang of it. My favorite is how there are little maps showing where you've sent books to and where you've received them from:

You know what's totally awesome? You can do this wxact same thing at your library, for $2 less! Per book!

Yes, I know but I like to do things like turning down the corners and keeping a book as long as I want cause most of the time it takes me forever to read something. Plus I'm too lazy to go to the library and find a book and then return it... Also, a lot of the books I've been getting lately are young adult fiction that I want to read and then pass on to my Little Sister, which is much easier if I own the book and can just give it to her.

I've always loved libraries for research but hated checking out library books for everyday reading. Meh.

I'm talking about the uncatalogued paperbacks. People donate, we lend them out. We have a lot of YA paperbacks, too.

If they get returned, that's cool. If they don't, that's cool too. No due date, no fines. No shipping costs. :)

Just another option.

Ahhh, I did not know such a thing existed.

Maybe I should come by one day with my Little Sister. I honestly don't know if she's ever been to a library before....I think I remember one of her counselors saying that she hadn't. She actually just called me to ask when we're hanging out next...maybe Thursday or Friday this week. I gave her an adult fiction book of mine last time I saw her and she's already read it. They don't have classes during the summer, so she's been consuming books like crazy.
