At least from my personal experience, getting enough rest during a con takes a LOT of discipline. I never manage it.
You CAN, however, pack a week early and get extra rest for that week before the convention, to help buffer you for the excitement and lack of sleep at the con. Of course, I don't often manage that either.
Another thing that helps, if you can swing it, is to be able to sleep in the Monday after the con. Now that I have a new job with no vacation time, I'm out of luck for that for the next few conventions too.
For the depression--I plan for the next convention, and connect with my online fannish friends.

Con drop is a pain. Nothing for it but rest, rehydration, eating well, and other self-care.
