In no particular order, this year I discovered/re-discovered:
1. Lil' Wayne:: Tha Carter III
2. Carole King :: Tapestry
3. Alela Diane :: The Pirate's Gospel
It could also be that they all have pretty significant memories: The first time my friend and I heard 'A Millie' on the radio and were like, "what is this!? we hate it! but...can't....stop....listening!" And I haven't had a remote interest in hip-hop since like, 1993. Driving across the Golden Gate Bridge, stoned, listening to Tapestry on repeat, and all of us looking at each other and saying, "this is so fucking perfect right now..." Alela Diane* opened for Will Oldham down in Big Sur, the most magical and amazing show I have ever been to.
I tried but failed to be super-impressed by the indie 'hits' such as Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver, She & Him. Meh. Thought that MGMT song 'Electric Feel'* is pretty hot.

I don't have a favorite album of 2008. I've just been discovering and rediscovering old acts.
