No really. Like, I think I might be in love with this finale, gripes aside of which there are many [because lol this show can be horrendous in too many ways], because it's positioned 1) Elena and 2) Bonnie [hopefully] exactly how I wanted them to be positioned.
Ugh, I've never been more excited to watch a character feed on blood and kill someone in a fit of bloodlust as I am now. The key to this bizarre zen attitude I'm having must be low as hell expectations.
GOING TO NEED FIC. ALL SUMMER.
(I HAVE MISSED YOU, TOO, I WILL NEVER LEAVE AGAIN. PREPARE YOURSELF FOR COMMENTS ON POSTS YOU MADE LIKE TWO WEEKS AGO AS I BACK-READ)
I AM READING YOUR POST ON TUMBLR RIGHT NOW AND AGREEING WITH EVERYTHING!
Yeah, I didn't really like the episode? By which I mean that I didn't like most of the dialogue. But the character arcs were flawless, and I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT ELENA OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 AND ABOUT BONNIE! And I'm hardly ever excited about Bonnie, so - good job, show! (Can we please talk about how Bonnie killed Tyler?)
The only thing I'm a bit angry about is that I meant to spent the summer writing a big vamp!Elena fic, and now EVERYONE is gonna be doing it, and I won't feel like a unique snowflake :(. AND I'VE BEEN PLANNING IT SINCE, LIKE, JANUARY!
Elena, why did you choose Stefan?! Explain to me, because I don't fucking understand. This is terrible. And Damon is supossed to leave town, right? Do not want. Any of this. This is the worst piece of bullshit in this episode. Also, why did Stefan save Matt instead of Elena? Who fucking cares what she wants? Damon will not give a shit and would save her. Fuck this shit. Also, I cried. "You're not dead" just broke my heart. And trololol, lucky Caroline XD Two in one, right?
“People can get frustrated by the love triangle, people can find it grating or whatever, but the premise of the show is two vampire brothers and their love for the same girl. That’s where we started and it’s always going to exist in the landscape of “The Vampire Diaries.” Some years it’ll be more in the forefront than other years, when it’s delicately laid in the background. Elena becoming a vampire will make it fresh. It changes things, and makes us ask new questions. It makes things a lot deeper. It’s all part of this process of growing up.” ARE YOU EVEN SERIOUS JULIE PLEC. SO WHERE THE FUCK IS IT. BRING IT OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN.
I'm about as skilled at reading owl facial expressions as you are at reading dolphin facial expressions, so tell me - exactly what emotions are you trying to convey with that owl face?
(yes, I'm online. guess who couldn't stay away from the computer hahaha).
Here is where not being a shipper is a definite advantage as everything worked out pretty well for me. I was pretty wrong though, I was convinced Elena would pick Damon and it would all go horribly badly! (So maybe I was half right...)
If I was a an SE shipper though, I would be feeling pretty angry this morning, the whole foundation of that relationship has just disappeared overnight.
It also worked for me, and I am a bit of a shipper ;). But Elena-stanning comes before shipping, so here it is.
I still can't get over the fact that Elena chose Stefan because he symbolized affirmation of life for her, and a few minutes later she refused to be saved by him and chose to die instead. This is THE CHOICE Elena made. Not some triangle shit, THIS. Elena chose to die. And she so didn't die for Matt. She made a sacrifice, she gave away the life his father gave for her, to pay that debt. Survivor's guilt. She should've died that night, and she didn't. Time to pay up.
That's the best reading of that I've seen so far. No lie. You may have just made me feel a tiny bit better about Vampire Elena. On the other hand wouldn't Damon say that Elena always chooses to die? She's been throwing herself at Klaus trying to make sure everyone else lives. So no her car actions don't surprise at all. Her as a vampire is going to be pretty interesting though.
I've been hoping for Vampire Elena for months, so I actually got exactly what I wanted! And I loved the way it was done. There were some incredible narrative twists in this episode. Like, WHOA. I'm trying to formulate some coherent thoughts.
The thing is, I don't feel like they can leave Elena as a vampire for the rest of the show and it work emotionally? This is not Twilight, her being a vampire can't possibly be a happy ending--not that we need a happy ending right now because we DON'T, but I feel like at the end of the show she has to be a human, who chooses herself over the boys, and has a life to live. That's the only ending that will work for me, and I feel like it's the only one that will make emotional sense. So how is she gonna turn back human? That's what I want to know.
Like, I lovelovelove that we're going to get to explore vampire!Elena, but...what happens later?
See, I think that TVD mythology actually allows Elena to stay a vampire till the end of the show. Because those vampires are very much human-like, they're the most human vampires I know. So I can imagine Elena just going away, choosing herself over the boys, choosing her own path, and doing it as a vampire. This doesn't mean that she's bound to them for eternity.
I guess partially I'm still affected by the Buffyverse--Buffy becoming a vampire is awesome in fic, but it would have been a betrayal of the whole show, even if she had a soul. But even more than that to me what's always been so amazing about Elena is that she has this fierce courage and is so very, very human and she'll die eventually and everyone around her is dying or becoming otherworldly, and her humanity just works for me. I'm just not sure emotionally it'll work for me if she stays a vampire. I don't know. I could change my mind, but I doubt it.

That happened.
(I'm not at all surprised by any of it. Because lol, we were all calling it.)
Season four might possibly be the best thing that'll ever happen to us. Or the worst.
Bring it.
