Scroll Type: AU
Scroll Length: 1 real life month
AU Canon: Bleach
AU Effects: Kakashi's canon history will largely be fit to Bleach's canon; he will believe himself to only be from the world of Bleach and will have forgotten everything else of his life in Konoha, as well as any CR formed until this point in Kannagara. The scroll will produce a shinigami uniform in his closet in place of shinobi attire. It will also transform his powers into a zanpakutou/kidou attacks. The scroll will only affect Kakashi, meaning any other character from Bleach will understand that this is, in fact, the gods fucking with them/Kakashi, and that none of what Kakashi believes is in fact true. How Bleach characters choose to react to Kakashi's belief that his AU history and background is real will be up to each individual mun.
Purpose of Scroll: The gods have decided that Kakashi's past life as a shinobi of Konoha is limiting his development too much in this world. He has demonstrated the inability to truly connect with anyone outside of those in his home world in the one year that he has been here. As a result, his dependence upon those individuals, particularly his lover, has been limiting his own development, as well as his lover's development, due to how close they are. The guilt that he carries, which is his largest obstacle, does not look as though it can be resolved without divine intervention. As shinigami have a very different relationship to death, Kakashi's world view of death and his understanding of it will be drastically changed. The result will give him better understanding of what death can mean -- that it does not have to be a burden, but is instead a natural part of life. At present, Kakashi views death as a very unnatural end to life because he has very rarely experienced or seen people die of natural causes -- most of the time their lives are taken in violent or terrible ways. Learning how to live with death and developing a different relationship with it can be a very positive experience for him. Experiencing a life different from his own, a life where he is capable of making many of his own choices and being able to live for himself, will also be a very important experience for him -- so many of Kakashi's formative experiences which have shaped him have told him that he has no self, no autonomy, and no purpose outside of being a shinobi. As shinigami largely become shinigami by choice and have very different lifespans, he will have been able to experience things he never could in the past -- such as a childhood, ambition to become shinigami, and a very different purpose: to maintain an extremely important spiritual balance between life and death in the world. This experience will provide Kakashi with a different world view and can help him overcome many of the obstacles he has refused to address while in Kannagara so far -- namely, Obito's death, his own inability to claim himself, and the experience of a life that could actually be called one.
Personality changes: Kakashi won't be quite so pensive and most likely won't react so negatively to certain things that result in excessive internalized angst. While he will continue to carry a considerable amount of angst, his understanding and relationship to it won't be quite the same as in the canon world. As a result, he will be more lazy, more laid back, more outspoken and willing to socialize, and generally more lulzy and trollish than he normally is. His view towards relationships will largely shift to the way he used to see them -- as distractions that won't necessarily last and are too messy to begin with. Everything else will mostly stay the same -- he is still loyal without a fault, still consistently late, still serious when he needs to be, but more fun than he used to be.
Abilities changes: The one noticeable change that Kakashi will have as a shinigami is the fact that his powers have shifted into various zanpakutou/kidou attacks. Kakashi's zanpakutou is called Raikiri, a lightning-based zanpakutou that releases in the form of his original Raikiri, which allows him to cut through anything the way his original Raikiri does. His bankai takes on the shape of his Raikiri wolf. The majority of attacks that come directly from his zanpakutou will all be lightning-based, while the rest of his attacks (genjutsu, ninjutsu, etc.) will shift into various kidou attacks instead. Due to the fact that he will still have a Sharingan, and will be able to use it, he won't be able to use an excessive amount of kidou - just like he has to limit himself canonically with ninjutsu. As a result, he'll predominately fight with his zanpakutou and hand-to-hand combat, using kidou only when it is absolutely necessary or when it doesn't consume an excessive amount of reiatsu. Like most shinigami, Kakashi will be able to stand on air.
AU Background: Kakashi was born into the prestige of the noble Hatake clan in Seireitei approximately 250 years ago. From the time that he was the equivalent of a three year old in Seireitei, he demonstrated remarkable skills in reiatsu control which made many believe that he would one day become a prodigy shinigami, taking after his father, Hatake Sakumo, who was one of the most-respected captains in the Gotei 13. Sakumo put his young son through training very early on, having recognized his skills, and as a result, Kakashi became the youngest to ever become a shinigami. He was placed under the leadership of Namikaze Minato, another well respected captain of the 2nd Division, who brought the young Kakashi under his wing as his skills blossomed. Many of Kakashi's "peers," shinigami much older than him, found it difficult to respect such a young shinigami, making it very difficult for him to make any friends as a child -- most other children shunned him or were too awe-inspired to really be good friends. Like his childhood in Konoha, he was very much alone -- but the years in Soul Society pass differently than the years in the human world, and because Kakashi had difficulty making friends in Seiretei, he sometimes snuck into the streets of Rukongai to play with the children there, dressed in a disguise. He stole a childhood for himself, and simultaneously learned that the class divisions between those in Seireitei and Rukongai were rather unnecessary and stupid.
Those rather happy, somewhat glorious days of his childhood came to an abrupt end one day -- Sakumo had gone against orders on a mission and abandoned the mission in order to save the lives of those in his division. The results were catastrophic -- not only did the failure to complete the mission result in widespread destruction caused by the Hollows, but the entire division was put under house arrest and Sakumo lost his position as the captain of his division, along with the honor of his clan and its noble status. Not too long after this, Sakumo committed suicide, to be discovered by the young Kakashi who drastically changed due to this discovery. Suddenly, his entire life became about the rules and regulations of the Gotei 13. He ceased to play in Rukongai, and dedicated his life to becoming a perfect shinigami, settling for nothing less.
As time would have it, two other young and talented shinigami joined Minato's division, Uchiha Obito, and Rin. Kakashi didn't really get along with them, despite the fact that they were closer to his age, and constantly fought and bickered with Obito who was everything he hated in a shinigami -- lazy, late, and constantly breaking the rules. One day after Kakashi was promoted to lieutenant, he lead a team comprised of Obito and Rin on an extremely dangerous mission. Rin was captured by the Adjuchas who wanted to use her as bait. Kakashi chose to abandon her to continue the mission, while Obito insisted, "Shinigami who break the laws of Seireitei are trash, but shinigami who abandon their friends are even worse than trash," and went against orders to rescue her. Eventually, Kakashi had a change of heart and decided to help Obito as well, losing his left eye in the process. They successfully managed to rescue Rin -- but just as they were about to escape, Obito saved Kakashi from the path of a gigantic falling boulder, which crushed half of his body and dealt mortal injuries to him that Rin was unable to do anything about. As his dying wish, Obito gave Kakashi his Sharingan -- a special genetic power those of the noble Uchiha clan pass on through generations.
Following this incident, Kakashi's personality shifted once more. He gradually grew more laid back and lazy, adopting many of Obito's traits for his own, so that he could live for them both. Obito had sacrificed his life in order to save Kakashi's, so Kakashi now had to repay this cost by living as best as he can for them both. As it were, this wouldn't be the last great loss Kakashi would suffer -- both Minato and Rin would eventually end up dying in action as well.
As the lieutenant of the 2nd Division, Kakashi briefly served under Shihouin Yoruichi who took over the role of captain after Minato's death. His primary duty was overseeing the Onmitsukidou, the Special Ops division of the Gotei 13. This assignment changed approximately 120 years ago, upon his ascension to the role of one of the two captains of the 7th Division, where he has been since, with Komamura Sajin as co-captain. This division is, to Kakashi's belief, the only division with two captains. Kakashi's seat in the 2nd Division was filled by Soifon upon his departure.
Kakashi will believe himself to be waking up in Kannagara shortly before Aizen's death in Bleach, while all Gotei 13 squads are running around Seireitei looking for Ichigo and his friends.
