It... kind of stems back to when I was fourteen. Most of it does, actually. [Wait, why does she feel the need to tell him this now? At the very least, she should have tried to schedule an appointment with him first.
Still, she can't stop herself.]
My parents died in a car accident when I was seven, which was terrible enough to deal with. And then I was nearly murdered by a serial killer when I was fourteen. In the police station, of all places--I was waiting for my sister to finish her shift. She was a homicide detective at the time. They had the man in custody, but the power failed because of a thunderstorm and he panicked and bolted. He found me. And he meant to kill me. I would have died if another man, a prosecutor, hadn't have jumped in to save my life ( ... )

Many people have negative associations with thunderstorms, myself included. [He pauses a bit.] Terrible things can happen in the dark.
