I have a lot of respect for you.

I hate nursing homes, but not because of the geriatric patients in them, but because of the awful treatment of them I have seen in the past.
I have always been afraid that if I went into long term care, I would end up in prison by beating the shit out of the first person I saw treat a helpless person like shit.

Its a big problem here in the US. I am embarrassed by how we treat our aging population here.

With that said, I still enjoy visiting them for the sheer pleasure of picking a stranger and spending the day with him or her.

I think it's also common here. It's an advantage working in the US as a home care nurse because you get paid a lot.

Nursing homes' activities here are very routinary, which makes it boring. You'll only love the job if your heart is really in it.

Thank you so much for this post. It makes me nauseous at times when I think about how the elderly are treated anywhere. The quality of life, I feel must be the best for them ever.

Salamat for your post.

That was a very inspiring post. :) Reminded me of my days volunteering for nursing homes and orphanages.
