There are different schools about this question. I like the idea that there is Prakriti (always changing manifestation of material world) and Purusha (never changing divine spirit that inhibits physical body). Classical Yoga of Patanjali. Vedanta says that these are two different sides of the same coin. Does it matter really? May be... What's your take on it?
My take.. I think where we are, in this state, we are almost always focusing on the Form (thought forms, that is ;) So, I try to shift the awareness to Purusha, when I remember to, if we use this language.. ..and personally, my belief is leaning towards:
I know nothing there is nothing but my thoughts there is Nothing underneath my thoughts Nothing is where Truth resides
I think in you post you called "something" what I'm calling "Nothing" ;)
