Anyone for it? Isn't everyone struggling financially? So why are we burning all our cash on more "things"? Do we really need them? Isn't the love we have for each other enough

This is incredibly good information for people like me with limited interpersonal insight :)
I shall not get you expensive and guilt-inducing presents. HOWEVER, I am still convinced that, for a variety of reasons, I remain in social and financial debt to you, if you count up the number of meals bought, and especially a certain completely awesome Team Canada jersey that is at my house (because it didn't fit in my luggage, this trip).
So I will feel OK, perhaps, giving you a non-expensive gift of some sort. Because you'll still be ahead in the gift imbalance. That jersey is worth like twelve gifts.
I think it comes down to trust. Do you trust that any gifts your friends are giving you are coming from a genuine place? There really is joy in giving and I wouldn't want my friends to be deprived of that. Sure they should know things are tight for you and they probably wouldn't want to give you something truly extravagant but you also have to trust that they aren't doing anything beyond their means.
If I had a friend on hard times and I was doing ok, I definitely would want to do something nice for them, with zero thoughts about reciprocation. Just being a friend back is a pretty amazing gift. I don't take those things for granted.
don't feel bad about being picky about jobs. you have a lot to offer and deserve a job that you actually want. trust me i know how much it sucks to be unemployed and broke, especially this time of year (i already told my sister her kids are getting crap gifts cause i have no money and she has two many kids! well actually max is getting a cool gift but only cause it was on sale), but isn't christmas supposed to be about more than gifts? i think i heard that somewhere, maybe it was from other broke people. have you thought of making gifts? like some homemade cookies, put them in dollar store tins and voila: cheap and made with love!
Yeah, I was going to make cookies for Scott's family. Although my dry apartment made my last batch a dentist's dream (ie great for breaking teeth). Plus I'd have to buy the ingredients. Yes, I'm that close to the line. :/

Amanda, do you want to get together to watch the game Thursday night? I don't think we have anything on then.
