New word for me too

xenologue's post reminded me I came across a new word the other day while reading J.D. Salinger's Franny and Zooey (a Jess from Gilmore Girls recommendation). I often (especially lately) have to/should look up words when I'm reading (for instance, I think I've spent years misunderstanding the word bemuse thinking it meant something close to amuse), but this ( Read more... )

That's all well and good, but what does "captious" mean?

I assumed something similar to frivolous... but not quite.

captious: 1. ready to catch others at fault; quibbling 2. sophistical; presented only for argument
