So I've been home from school now for almost a week. In many ways it's a lot better than I was expecting. In a lot of ways it's worse, in the sense that a lot of what I'm feeling is a lot of the reason I wanted to get out of here in the first place

Breakfast of Champions is fucking awesome. I love hearing of other people reading Vonnegut. Read more. The poem you wrote was good too, by the way. At first when I read it I thought a lot of it had been done before, like the hitchhiking metaphor. But then I realized 99% of writing, even good writing, isn't purely originaly. And you kept it interesting, and were clever enough with your diction to keep it fresh. So don't worry about using tired metaphors, but be careful of cliches (I'm not saying you used any, there is just a really fine line between the two). So yeah, way to go Drew. And now, so I don't sound too nice to you. FUCKING DIE BITCH.

Hey. I had used the hitchhiking metaphor because it kinda fits what I was trying to get across with the poem. I was trying to make it about my directionlessness and lack of motivation lately. See, I hitchhike everywhere on the Island. It's how I would always get to my shitty job every day, and it kinda fed into the whole mood. So yeah, I agree, it's been done before, but at least I had a reason to use it.
And as for 99% of writing not being purely original - it's why there are archetypes in literary analysis: You can always find some way in which something new resembles something already done before (and most of it can go as far back as early mythology).
But yeah, I appreciate the comment. To get good feedback from the first poem I've written that I actually like means a lot.
