10 Things to Buy This Fall
1. A great pair of boots that can be worn at the office and for a night out. There are so many options out there, but to avoid being overwhelmed I'll give you a couple of tips to help you find your perfect pair.
Color: if you're cool toned, black is your best option. If you're warm toned, brown is your best bet. How do you know if you're cool or warm? Cool toned chicas normally have a pink, red, or blue undertone. Their eye color is normally blue or dark brown, and they look their best in beautiful jewel-toned blues, royal purples, and rich blacks. Kelly Rowland of Destiny's Child is cool-toned as so is Scarlett Johansson. Warm toned honies normally have a yellow or golden undertone. Their eye color is normally green, hazel, or light brown and they look their best in army greens, warm beiges, and gorgeous golds. Beyonce Knowles is warm-toned as well as Debra Messing.
Heel: You'll know what works best on your feet, but the trends now are leaning towards wedges. Stillettos are still hot and so are pointy toes; both of these options help to elongate the body.
Texture: texture is big this season. Look for suede, mock croc, animal prints, and embroidery.
2. A good fitting sweater. Geek chic seems to be in this fall, so we're seeing a lot of sleek sweater vests, cardigans, turtlenecks, and sweater coats. Be sure to look for great quality in a sweater and you'll look fab all season.
3. The best facial moisturizer your money can buy. If you live in an area where temperatures can go lower than a drunk co-ed playing limbo on spring break, you'll probably need extra moisture this season. Your skin will thank you later. If your skin is very dry, look for products that are creamy and hydrating.
4. A rich deep conditioner. What's bad for your face is bad for your hair, especially in cooler temperatures. Be sure to get your weekly deep conditioning on and give special attention to your ends to combat dry hair.
5. A fab oversized tote or shoulder bag in a striking and unobvious color. I'm not even sure if unobvious appears in the dictionary, but it should definitely appear in your wardrobe. Bags can be big statement pieces and can fab up an otherwise plain outfit. Look for one that has character and that can go with most of your clothing.
6. A belted coat. Nothing says 'put together and chic' like a really good belted coat. You could have on the most awful outfit underneath, but a belted coat brings it all together.
7. A pair of jeans that look like they were created for you and only you. A good man is hard to find and sometimes so is a good pair of jeans. Fortunately, the denim industry has made some big improvements and your perfect pair is only a click and a good tailor away.
8. A colorful scarf (note: the oversized winter weather kind, not the tiny flight attendant kind). A bold scarf tied around your neck adds instant character to your outfit. Pick one that complements the color scheme of your outfit.
9. Leather gloves. I possibly love leather gloves because I dream of one day wearing them just to take them off and slap some rude person about the face with them, but they do add an aire of sophistication to your overall look.
10. Dress pants. I love to be able to wear something to work and then wear it to an after-work soiree. It saves me time and a whole lot of space. Get a pair that makes you look lean and tall (and the booty looking scrumptious) taking care that the pattern is flattering to your body shape.
