I will be in your downtown next week shooting a filmographic presentation. Cultural/culinary/whatever recommendations are welcomed.

If you have a fondness for Thomas Jefferson designed buildings/statehouses full of blowhards/some very nice historical paintings/roman busts and statues of George Washington, The State Capitol is very nice. If you have a nice day, bring a lunch and sit out on the lawn.

Not too far from there is Shockoe Slip and Shockoe Bottom, which has some nice restaurants and things in old tobacco warehouses. Go to watch people trip over the cobblestones on the road.

Not far from there is Bottoms Up Pizza, which is very tasty. It got flooded badly during one of the many tropical storms we get, and has a marker where the water rose. It's interesting enough.

Edo's Squid (411 N. Harrison St) near Virginia Commonwealth University is one of my favorite places. It's really small and hidden above a Stuffy's, but is some of the tastiest Italian in the city. But it does get really busy during peak hours, and can be hard to get a seat during those times.

Be extra aware of your genitals and orifices because, word is, Virginia is for lovers.

If you dig a good BBQ, make sure to hit up Buz and Ned's while you're in the area.

Also, if you hit Carytown, there's a little place called Momotaro Sushi almost right across from the Byrd theatre. One of, if not THE, best sushi place in town.
