It's my last week of classes for the quarter, so I wanted to get this out before the madness ensues. Message to all of you now silent feedbackers: Stop it, please. Thank you.
Loved it. Loved the dialogue between tara and ashley. ashley is a very different person today and it's understandable how she doesn't like to be put back in her "old version" persona, or rather how she likes and dislikes it at the same time..
spencer is...interesting. i want more of her.
tara telling ashley about how spencer is all she may have needed all along looked a bit forced to me though.
Hmm. This chapter has left me full of wonder. I really can't put my finger on any one conclusion regarding Spencer or Ashley, just more questions. I CAN say that I really LOVE Kat and that I wish I had a friend like her. She is the constant in this story--the weave to the web, so to speak. It's like she's singing the truth while Spencer and Ashley dance around it. Plus, she's blunt and funny and cuts through the crap
( ... )
I like characters in stories that sort of indulgently express the stuff that the reader can't say. Kat is that for me and this story. She's narrating it even if she's not constantly in the story
( ... )
Ooh, you're really asking for it setting them both up with other people. I can see why Ashley would want to test the waters with Tara though, she's never really been in a relationship before and even if Robin wasn't around jumping into one with Spencer would be pretty intimidating given their history. It's interesting that Tara is so perceptive, even if Ashley isn't letting herself admit it I think she's going to pick up on Ashley still carrying a torch for Spencer
( ... )
Tara definitely represents the "almost there, but not quite" in Ashley's life. I imagine that for a long time, Ashley's discounted certain people because they weren't Spencer without even realizing it. She met Tara and liked her, but clearly, something was missing so she chose not to pursue it. Well, now Spencer's in her life and it makes her feel like she can finally try with an actual person instead of an idea of one (former Spencer.)It's rarely ever that simple in FF.
While it's a constant refrain, I will repeat it again sincerely, this was so well written. I can't even describe how much I feel for Ashley, then and now. You set it up so well that I think I see her in the restaurant wearing a cat sweatshirt (i picture embellishments - like glowing eyes) and so aware of Spencer across from her, simultaneously hoping and worrying that Spencer will finally meet her eyes and know her. To see her, so hyper aware and achingly observant of Spencer today - worrying that those moments in high school may have all in her head and to see, although she may not admit it, that she has a place in Spencer's life now
( ... )
I TOTALLY PICTURE EMBELLISHMENTS---YESSSSSSS! I'm glad we're on the same page with the cat sweatshirt. That's important.
"Achingly observant..." Maybe YOU should be the one writing this, because that really sums it up quite well. You're hitting all the subtleties I hope are seen by the achingly observant reader, and I wish I could point them out without feeling like I'm giving away a little too much, but just know--EXACTLY.
Too many psychologists in this chapter, with Kat leading the way. No, seriously, Tara and Kat are sounding like they are psychoanalyzing Ashley; a fact that should be bothering her since it's like she's always under a microscope, but I suppose she's kind of tired having always to explain and has decided to go with the flow, hence the dating part, which I really liked. Even if Tara ends being thrown aside, since Spashley always prevails, I have a feeling that she and Ashley are going to stay friends, which by me would be great because I like how simple she is and I'm anxiously waiting for their dating to stir some drama
( ... )
I like that point. Ashley is absolutely being poked and prodded in this process--by everyone. And she seemingly takes it all in stride, which has got to make you wonder why and how

And yeah, Spencer is going to be (and hopefully already is) a very layered character. She'll continue to be revealed and she'll continue evolving.
